Young people's meaningful involvement in shaping the policies that affect their lives. That is the core of this training course — and the reason youth workers need better tools for it. Shaping the Table is for people who want to move beyond theory and actually learn how to design and facilitate participatory processes in their daily youth work.
Youth Power Germany is organising Shaping the Table — A Training Course on Youth Participation in Policy Making — an Erasmus+ Training Course taking place in Malaga, Spain, from 6 to 13 July 2026. The course brings together youth workers from Italy, Germany, Austria, Spain, and Portugal.
The training is rooted in Youth Goal 1: Connecting EU with Youth — contributing to meaningful youth involvement in democratic decision-making and to education about Europe in non-formal settings.
What Is This Training About?
Through non-formal education and experiential learning, participants explore key concepts of participatory youth policy — including the policy cycle, principles of effective youth policy, stakeholder mapping, vision for change, and monitoring and evaluation. The course places strong emphasis on the role of youth workers as facilitators of participatory processes — building young people's agency, encouraging civic engagement, and connecting participatory competences to real-life youth work contexts.
Objectives
🏛️ Introduce participants to key concepts of participatory youth policy making within non-formal education — using the policy cycle and core principles as a common reference
🌍 Explore country realities of youth work and participation — exchanging experiences and good practices across different national contexts
🗺️ Develop understanding of core participatory youth policy competences — stakeholder mapping, vision for change, monitoring and evaluation
🛠️ Equip participants with practical NFE methods and tools for designing and facilitating participatory activities with and for young people at local level
📋 Support participants in creating concrete plans for local-level participatory sessions transferable to their own youth work after the training
🪞 Encourage personal and professional reflection through experiential learning, peer exchange, and Youthpass recognition
What the Training Looks Like
Phase 1 — Building the Learning Environment
Creating a safe and supportive space, building trust among participants, fostering group cohesion — activities exploring similarities and differences, group alliance, and shared expectations.
Phase 2 — Deepening Core Concepts
Principles of effective youth policy, vision for change in the youth policy field, stakeholder mapping, monitoring and evaluation — in depth.
Phase 3 — Designing & Facilitating
Working in teams to develop concrete educational activities integrating participatory youth policy principles into youth work practice. Simulation, peer feedback, and structured reflection.
Phase 4 — Strengthening and Planning
Strengthened facilitation competences, practical activity concepts, and tools and strategies for fostering youth participation and civic engagement in local contexts.
Preparation & Follow-Up
📚 Before the training: Complete a preparatory online course including up to 3 practical assignments — accessible prior to the start of the event
⚠️ If the group profile is more advanced, the online course structure may be adjusted. Selected participants will be informed in due time.
📋 After the training: Design, organise, and implement follow-up educational activities based on the learning outcomes of the event

🏠 Participants accommodated in 3 to 4-bed bunk bed rooms — bed sheets and towels included, WiFi throughout the building
🍽️ Breakfast, lunch, and dinner served daily at the residence
🏛️ Training sessions held at the residence
🕑 Check-in from 14:00 — luggage storage available from arrival
📅 Arrival: 6 July 2026 between 17:00 and 19:00 — welcome programme and dinner from 19:30

🌿 Green travel (bus, train, carpooling) is strongly encouraged. For distances under 500 km, land transport is preferred — flights for these distances reimbursed at 60% only.

📍 2000–2999 km: €395 / €535 (green)
📍 3000–3999 km: €580 / €785 (green)
⚠️ Only cheapest tickets reimbursed. No taxis, travel agency fees, seat reservations, flexible tariffs, or priority boarding. Extra hand luggage may be covered within budget — confirm before purchasing.
⚠️ Participants may arrive 1 day early or depart 1 day late at own expense for accommodation. Green travel participants may have up to 4 additional travel days.
⚠️ Keep all original tickets, boarding passes, and invoices — reimbursement by bank transfer after the event upon submission of all documents and evaluation forms.
