🇪🇸 ESC Volunteering in Spain 👧 La Escuelita: Summer School for Children in a Socially Excluded Neighbourhood 🌞

A neighbourhood with high levels of social exclusion. Around 70 children aged 5 to 18. Breakfast, homework support, workshops, games, swimming pool trips, and Friday excursions. La Escuelita is a beloved community summer school in the La Paz neighbourhood of Granada, and Asociación Las Niñas del Tul is looking for ESC volunteers to make it happen this summer.

🏘️ About the Project

La Escuelita is a popular summer school deeply rooted in the La Paz neighbourhood — a community facing significant social exclusion. The project offers children aged 5–18 a structured, nurturing, and fun environment during the summer months, supporting their learning, wellbeing, and development. Volunteers work in pairs supporting one of four age groups, and are at the heart of the daily programme from breakfast through to lunch.

📋 A Typical Day

🌅 9:30 — Activities begin — breakfast support and morning programme

📚 Morning — Homework support

🎨 Daytime — Workshops, games, creative activities

🏊 Regular trips to the swimming pool

🍽️ Lunch provided after children leave at 15:00

🏕️ Fridays — Full-day excursions until 18:00

🗓️ Monday to Friday — weekends are days off

⚠️ On some days, volunteers may stay until 16:30 to prepare an activity after lunch.

🎁 What the Project Provides

🏠 Apartment accommodation in the Barrio de Ronda, close to Camino de Ronda avenue — 5 rooms, living room, bathroom, kitchen, and laundry

💶 €6 per day pocket money

🍳 Breakfast and lunch covered by a halal catering service on activity days

🍽️ Additional money provided for dinner and weekend meals — prepared by volunteers themselves

🚌 Bus transport to the activity covered

✅ Important Requirements

🔞 Aged 18–30

📋 Criminal record certificate confirming no criminal record — mandatory for working with children in Spain. Without this document the organisation cannot host the volunteer

🗣️ Ability to communicate in English or Spanish — some children only speak Spanish

⏱️ Total duration of this and any previous EU volunteering must not exceed 12 months

🏕️ A profile similar to a summer camp monitor or leisure activity facilitator is highly suitable — or at minimum a genuine passion for working with children

⚠️ 5 places for international volunteers and 3 local volunteers from the Granada area. Local volunteers do not receive accommodation.
