๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ด ESC Volunteering in Romania ๐ŸŒ Volunteering for a Better World ๐Ÿง’ Education & Social Work with Children, Reศ™iศ›a ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ด

A Romanian youth NGO in Reศ™iศ›a is looking for 4 individual ESC volunteers to spend a full year working with children and young people from disadvantaged communities across the Reศ™iศ›a area. This long-term volunteering opportunity offers two distinct roles โ€” Non-Formal Education Volunteer (3 positions) and Social Media & Content Creation Volunteer (1 position) โ€” both centred on making a meaningful, lasting difference in the lives of vulnerable children through education, inclusion, and community engagement. Rolling applications โ€” no deadline.

๐ŸŒ Did You Know? Reศ™iศ›a is Romania's oldest industrial city and sits in the heart of the Banat region โ€” one of Central Europe's most historically multicultural areas, where Romanian, Hungarian, German, and Serbian cultures have coexisted for centuries. Surrounded by forested mountains and close to the stunning Nera Gorges natural reserve, it offers an authentic Romanian experience far from the typical tourist routes.

What Will You Do?

๐ŸŽ“ Non-Formal Education (3 volunteers): Facilitate engaging non-formal educational activities for children in kindergartens, nurseries, afterschool programmes, schools for children with special needs, and placement centres across Reศ™iศ›a, Bocศ™a, Dognecea, and Ocna de Fier.
๐Ÿ“š Homework Help & English Lessons: Support children with homework assistance and English language learning โ€” building their confidence, social skills, and self-esteem in an inclusive and encouraging environment.
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ง Parental Engagement: Collaborate with parents to highlight the value of education and encourage active parental involvement in their children's development.
๐Ÿ“ฑ Social Media & Content Creation (1 volunteer): Manage the project's social media presence โ€” creating engaging content, designing visuals, editing videos, and writing compelling posts that showcase the project's impact and inspire community support.
๐Ÿ•๏ธ Summer Team Projects: During the summer, participate as team members in short-term volunteering projects โ€” leading teams, facilitating team-building activities, and developing leadership and collaboration skills.
๐ŸŒฑ Cultural & Community Activities: Take part in cultural and volunteering activities that promote solidarity, voluntary work, and positive community interaction across the region.
๐ŸŒ Did You Know? Non-formal education (NFE) is a cornerstone of European youth policy and is officially recognised by the EU as a powerful tool for social inclusion. Research consistently shows that children who participate in structured NFE activities โ€” games, creative workshops, peer learning โ€” develop stronger social skills, greater resilience, and better academic outcomes than those who do not, especially in disadvantaged communities.

Who Can Apply?

๐ŸŽ‚ Age: Volunteers must be aged between 18 and 30 at the time of the activity.
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Language: A minimum A2 level of English is required. Higher levels are welcome but not mandatory โ€” the key is motivation and communication skills.
โค๏ธ Passion for Children & Communities: A strong interest in education, youth work, special education, and community development is at the heart of what this project is looking for.
๐Ÿ’ก Mindset: Flexible, open-minded, tolerant, creative, and proactive โ€” with the ability to work both independently and as part of an international team.
๐Ÿ“ฑ For Content Role: The Social Media & Content Creation volunteer should have experience or interest in managing social media, creating visual content, editing video, and writing engaging posts in English.
๐ŸŽ“ For Education Role: Interest in pedagogy, non-formal education, or special education is highly valued โ€” though no formal qualifications are required.

Accommodation, Food & Travel

๐Ÿ  Accommodation: Volunteers are housed in a fully equipped rented apartment or house with single or shared double bedrooms, a kitchen, bathroom, and communal living space. All housing costs โ€” including rent, water, gas, and electricity โ€” are fully covered by the hosting NGO.
๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Food Allowance: โ‚ฌ5 per day is provided to cover food expenses.
๐Ÿ’ฐ Pocket Money: โ‚ฌ4 per day pocket money is provided throughout the project.
๐ŸšŒ Local Transport: Support for local transportation is provided by the NGO.
โœˆ๏ธ Travel Costs: International travel costs are covered in accordance with ESC programme guidelines.

Training & Learning

๐Ÿ’ป On-Arrival Training (Online): Volunteers participate in an On-Arrival Training provided online by the Romanian National Agency to support their integration into the project and local context.
๐Ÿ›๏ธ Mid-Term Training (In Person): A Mid-Term Training is conducted in person in Bucharest โ€” an opportunity to connect with other ESC volunteers across Romania, reflect on the experience, and further develop skills.
