A dynamic community volunteering project in Tรขrgoviศte, Romania is looking for ESC volunteers to join its annual summer team. The Be You 3×3 Challenge brings together international volunteers to co-organise community events, set up sports infrastructure, maintain green spaces, and support youth-focused activities in a hands-on, high-energy environment. This project is open exclusively to participants with fewer opportunities โ in line with ESC programme provisions โ and is ideal for motivated, physically active volunteers ready to make a real impact in local communities. ๐ Did You Know? Tรขrgoviศte was the former royal capital of Wallachia and one of the most historically significant cities in Romania โ home to a spectacular 14th-century royal court complex, the Princely Court, which served as the seat of Wallachian rulers for centuries. Despite its rich history, it remains a hidden gem largely unknown to international visitors, offering an authentic Romanian experience far from the tourist trail.
What Will You Do?
๐ช Community Event Organisation: Support the planning and running of community events โ helping to coordinate logistics, manage activities, and ensure everything runs smoothly from start to finish.
๐๏ธ Equipment Assembly & Installation: Hands-on assembly and installation of sports and field equipment, event infrastructure, tents, and outdoor community space setups โ physical readiness is a real part of this role.
๐ฟ Green Space Arrangement & Maintenance: Contribute to the arrangement and upkeep of green spaces as part of the community development programme.
โฝ Sports Activities: Support and participate in sports activities and youth-focused events as part of the project’s active community engagement approach.
๐ Educational Activities: Assist the organisation’s staff in preparing and running educational activities and other community initiatives targeted at youth and local communities.
๐ค Active Community Engagement: Be a visible, energetic presence in the community โ working directly with smaller and rural communities to build connection, participation, and local pride.
๐ Did You Know? 3×3 basketball โ the fast-paced, half-court format of the game โ became an official Olympic sport at the Tokyo 2020 Games and has exploded in popularity across Europe and beyond. Community 3×3 events are now one of the most effective tools for youth engagement in urban and rural settings alike, combining sport, inclusion, and social interaction in a format that is accessible to almost anyone.
Who Can Apply?
๐ฏ Fewer Opportunities (Mandatory): This project is open exclusively to participants with fewer opportunities, who will receive additional support in line with ESC programme provisions. Please ensure you meet this criterion before applying.
๐ Age: Volunteers must be aged between 18 and 29 at the time of the activity.
๐ช Physical Readiness: Volunteers must be comfortable with physically demanding work โ assembling equipment, setting up infrastructure, and maintaining outdoor spaces are core parts of the role.
๐ฃ๏ธ Language: A minimum B2 level of English is required for effective communication within the international volunteer team.
โก Energy & Attitude: Proactive, responsible, positive, and energetic volunteers who love teamwork, practical tasks, and outdoor activities will thrive in this project.
๐ Community Mindset: Motivation to develop organisational skills, interest in community events, and a willingness to work with smaller and rural communities are all highly valued.
Accommodation, Food & Travel
๐ Accommodation: Volunteers are housed in Tรขrgoviศte in shared rooms with 3โ4 volunteers per room. The accommodation includes a common kitchen equipped with a fridge, microwave, and stove. Please note: the accommodation is a strictly non-smoking environment throughout.
๐ฝ๏ธ Food Allowance: โฌ5 per day is provided to cover food and basic necessities.
๐ฐ Pocket Money: โฌ4 per day pocket money is provided throughout the project.
โ๏ธ Travel Costs: Travel expenses to and from Romania are reimbursed in accordance with travel documents provided and ESC programme official guidelines.
Training & Learning
๐ Pre-Departure Training: Volunteers attend a pre-departure training session before leaving for Romania to prepare for the activities and expectations of the project.
๐ฏ Learning Goal Setting: Under the guidance of the volunteer coordinator, volunteers set personal learning goals at the start of the project and receive ongoing support in developing skills related to activity management and community work.
๐ ๏ธ On-Site Instructions: Practical instructions for all project activities are provided on arrival, ensuring volunteers are fully prepared for their hands-on responsibilities from day one.
