The Government of Czechia offers development-cooperation scholarships for citizens of selected developing countries to study follow-up Master's and Doctoral programmes at public higher education institutions in Czechia for the 2027/2028 academic year. The programme provides a monthly stipend and covers tuition and health services, and the application period runs from 21 August to 30 September 2026.
About the Programme
Granting scholarships to citizens of developing countries for studies at Czech public universities is an important part of Czechia's foreign development cooperation and has a long tradition. From the late 1950s to today, over 20,000 foreign nationals have completed their studies at Czech universities with a Government of the Czech Republic scholarship.
🏛️ The scholarships are governed by Resolution of the Government of the Czech Republic No. 870 of 27 November 2024, and are run jointly by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health.
Who Can Apply (Eligible Countries)
🌍 Government scholarships for 2027/2028 are offered only to citizens of the following countries:
🇧🇦 Bosnia and Herzegovina, 🇬🇪 Georgia, 🇺🇦 Ukraine, 🇧🇾 Belarus (democratic forces), 🇪🇹 Ethiopia, 🇬🇦 Gabon, 🇲🇷 Mauritania, 🇿🇲 Zambia, 🇧🇩 Bangladesh, 🇰🇭 Cambodia, 🇵🇸 Palestine, 🇬🇹 Guatemala and 🇭🇳 Honduras.
🚫 The scholarships are intended solely for foreign nationals from developing and specific third countries. Citizens of Czechia, citizens of the European Union, and any foreign national with a permanent residence permit in Czechia cannot apply. There is no legal claim to a scholarship award.
What You Can Study
📗 Programmes taught in Czech (for applicants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Ukraine and Belarus): two-year follow-up Master's programmes in selected areas of study, preceded by a one-year preparatory course of the Czech language (part of the scholarship) at the Institute for Language and Preparatory Studies, Charles University.
📘 Programmes taught in English (for applicants from all eligible countries): selected two-year follow-up Master's programmes and selected three- to four-year Doctoral programmes.
🎓 To be granted a follow-up Master's scholarship you must have completed a Bachelor's programme; for a Doctoral scholarship you must have completed a Master's programme. Applicants for English-medium studies must sit an online entrance English test during the application; applicants for Czech-medium studies complete a general study prerequisites test. Those who already hold a Czech B2 certificate may skip the preparatory year but must pass the university's admission procedure themselves.
What the Scholarship Provides
💳 A monthly stipend of CZK 16,000 for follow-up Master's students and CZK 24,960 for Doctoral students (amounts may be adjusted by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports).
🩺 Health services reimbursed by the Ministry of Health, subject to the conditions in the Guidelines.
🎓 Study at a Czech public university under the same conditions as Czech students.
✈️ Travel to Czechia and back home after graduation is NOT covered by the scholarship; the student or the nominating party must pay for it. Accommodation, food and public transport are paid by the holder from the monthly stipend, and initial costs of roughly CZK 5,000-8,000 on arrival should be covered from your own funds.

How to Apply
📝 Each applicant must complete the electronic application form via the official portal by 30 September 2026. You may register only once and submit only one application. The application is complete only after the motivation letter is submitted and the mandatory tests are completed.
📄 Required documents for Master's applicants include a one-page motivation letter, a CV focused on studies and employment, a passport photocopy, signed declarations (Annexes 1-3), a legalised birth certificate with certified Czech translation, a recent medical confirmation (Annex 4, no more than two months old), and a legalised copy of the Bachelor's diploma with Diploma Supplement (apostille/superlegalization and certified Czech translation), plus proof the awarding institution is entitled to provide university education.
📄 Doctoral applicants additionally provide a two-page motivation letter describing the intended doctoral focus, a legalised Master's diploma with supplement, an overview of publication activity, a 3-5 page outline of the dissertation focus, and two letters of recommendation from professors. Documents not in Czech must be translated by a sworn translator registered in Czechia; where that is not possible, certified English translations are accepted, and documents submitted to the embassy must be provided in duplicate.
Selection Timeline
🗓️ After the initial evaluation, selected applicants are invited by the relevant Embassy of Czechia to an interview and to submit the required documents. The Embassy forwards final proposals to Czechia in January 2027, and successful applicants are informed by the end of June 2027, to start studies in the 2027/2028 academic year.
Important Conditions
⏳ Scholarship holders must complete their studies within the standard period of study; exceeding it means losing the scholarship and paying all costs themselves.
⚠️ The scholarship ceases during any absence from Czechia of more than 30 consecutive days (unless for study obligations or holidays), during study interruption, or if the holder obtains permanent residence. On arrival, holders must notify the International Student Office at least 5 working days in advance and register with the Alien Police within 3 working days.
