Some of the most valuable opportunities for young people are not about a salary or a diploma. They are about finding your voice, learning to lead, and using both to make a real difference. This week we have gathered three of them, and all three close today or tomorrow, so this is very much a last call. Whether you want to shape European policy from your border region, train as a global-justice advocate, or simply reconnect with fellow youth workers as a human being rather than a job title, there is something here worth your final push before the deadline.
These programmes sit at the heart of youth participation and civic engagement, the space where young people stop being spectators and start influencing the decisions that affect their communities. One is a European Commission initiative that puts ten young people directly in the room with EU officials; one is an advocacy programme that trains you to campaign, lobby and work with the media for global justice; and one is a rare, agenda-free gathering for people working in the youth field to rest and reconnect. 1. 🇩🇪 Youth Workers' Get Together: Connection & Recharge near Bremen, Germany

This is a rare space to be a human being, not just a practitioner. "The Get Together III: Practitioner As Person" runs from 23 to 28 October 2026 at NaturKultur's KulturHaus, just outside Bremen, and it is deliberately different from almost every other programme in the youth field: there are no workshops, no agenda and no rushing off to the next session. Instead it creates and protects time and space for youth workers and non-formal educators to come together as people, to rest, share stories, swap ideas and passions, laugh, be spontaneous and simply get to know one another beyond the usual professional roles.
It is built for practitioners who regularly meet at trainings and projects but rarely get to foster real interpersonal connection, tell non-work stories, or spend genuine quality time together. If you have been longing for an experience where not every moment is planned in advance, this is designed for exactly that. Open to applicants aged 18 and over, with no upper age limit. Please note this programme is not funded under Erasmus+, so no travel, bursary or reimbursement is available, and invitation letters for visa purposes cannot be provided.
2. 🇪🇺 Cross-Border Ambassadors Programme: A European Commission Youth Initiative for Border Regions

After three successful editions, the Border Focal Point Network (BFPN), coordinated by the European Commission's DG REGIO, is launching its 2026–2027 mandate and selecting up to 10 Cross-Border Ambassadors for this fourth edition. The programme empowers young people living in or connected to Europe's border regions to engage directly in EU-level dialogue on cross-border cooperation, bring insights from the ground, and raise the visibility of border issues through youth-led communication, all contributing to a more inclusive and better integrated Europe.
Selected Ambassadors take part in a six-month mandate from 1 October 2026 to 31 March 2027, attend monthly online meetings with DG REGIO and the BFPN team, and contribute to the network's communications on Futurium, social media and newsletters. Each Ambassador also chooses at least one personal focus activity: creating short-form video content, producing a podcast episode, organising a local event or cultural exchange in a border region, or writing a short report or policy brief. There is also the chance to join the "Beyond Borders" breakfast debates and collaborate with peers across Member States. Everyone receives a formal Certificate of Completion signed by DG REGIO, and outstanding contributions may be featured in Commission communications.
To apply you must be aged 18 to 30, live in an EU Member State or EFTA country with a strong connection to a border region, be fluent in English, and be ready to commit around two days per month. Applications close on 31 August 2026, a shortlist follows in early September, and final candidates are notified by 24 September 2026, with an online onboarding session on 1 October.
3. 🇨🇦 ONE Global Activists Volunteer Programme: Advocacy Training for Global Justice in Canada

The ONE Global Activists Program in Canada (2026–2027) is a volunteer advocacy programme for people based in Canada who are passionate about demanding the investments needed to create economic opportunities and healthier lives in Africa. As a ONE Global Activist you make an impact on your community, country and the world, backed by a highly visible, mission-driven network of over 1,000 people across Canada, Europe, Africa and the US. You get trained in how to campaign, lobby decision-makers and engage the media compellingly, then put those skills into practice at ONE events and meetings with high-level officials, following an issue through to a real outcome.
What you gain is substantial: membership of the Canadian and global ONE activist community, a written confirmation of service and a certificate on completion, hands-on training in advocacy, global politics, media and policy, the chance to represent ONE at events and conferences, opportunities to engage directly with decision-makers, professional skill-building through issue briefings and advocacy training, friendships with like-minded activists across Canada, and some ONE campaign swag along the way. To join you must be a resident of Canada, passionate about creating change, interested in engaging policymakers on the issues facing Africa, and willing to dedicate time to raise awareness and mobilise support. As a Canada-only programme, it is a niche fit for our wider audience, but a strong one if you are based there.
