🇮🇹 ESC Volunteering in Italy 🌿 Rural Development and Community Arts Volunteer at Immaginaria — Pastene 🎭

A 600-inhabitant village in the Campania region. A renovated community centre with a functioning fireplace. Web radio, social theatre, foraging walks, upcycling workshops, and a monthly village fair. Cooperativa Sociale Immaginaria is looking for 2 ESC volunteers to join their team in the rural village of Pastene — a placement that is as rich and varied as the community it serves.

🏘️ About the Project

The project takes place in Pastene, a small rural village near Benevento in Campania, southern Italy. In January 2026, Immaginaria opened Il Borghetto — a community culture centre housed in a two-storey building renovated by local volunteers. This is the heart of the placement, along with Immaginaria’s headquarters (a coworking space and multimedia room) and the village exhibition hall. All venues are within a 5-minute walk from the volunteers’ accommodation.

📋 What You’ll Do

The role spans six activity areas — and volunteers can be involved across all of them:

🎵 Community Arts — workshops in community music, social theatre, and social videomaking

🏡 Il Borghetto — maintenance of the community centre, bio-architecture and upcycling workshops, gardening

🍳 Soul Kitchen — sustainable cooking workshops, foraging walks, intercultural cooking events

🏕️ Hospitality and Group Management — workcamps, artists’ residencies, and training courses

🎪 Community Animation — monthly fair, summer camps, and community events

🎙️ Digital Media — web radio, video podcasts, and digital storytelling

🏠 Accommodation

Volunteers stay on the second floor of Il Borghetto — a beautifully renovated space with 2 bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, and living room (complete with a functioning fireplace). Located in the historical centre of Pastene, within 5 minutes’ walk of all activity venues.

👤 Who Should Apply

Immaginaria is looking for 2 volunteers aged 18–30 who:

🎨 Are active, creative, and enthusiastic

🌿 Are interested in non-formal education, youth work, and rural life

🔄 Are flexible and adaptable to new contexts with deep cultural differences

🤝 Work well in a team and in a genuinely community-oriented environment

🏘️ Are genuinely interested in working and living in a rural area
