๐ง๐ช ESC Volunteering in Belgium ๐ญ Promoting Culture with Le Monty ๐ช Civic Space and Arts, Genappe ๐ง๐ช
Are you drawn to arts, culture, civic life, and community spaces โ and open to spending time in the French-speaking Belgian countryside? Le Monty is a brand new shared cultural space in Genappe, Belgium โ a place designed to spark creativity, support citizens’ initiatives, and build synergies between people and the non-profit sector. Three ESC volunteers will join the Le Monty team to help run cultural events, welcome guests, assist with stage preparation, work alongside the TOF puppet theatre, and animate a space that is genuinely open to everyone. Private room in a shared apartment on-site, food and pocket money provided, French classes available. Deadline: 20 April 2026.
๐ง๐ช Did You Know? Genappe is a small municipality in the Walloon Brabant province of Belgium โ situated between Brussels and Namur, just 30 kilometres south of the Belgian capital. The region is part of the French-speaking Wallonia and is known for its gentle rolling countryside and quiet rural character. Being so close to Brussels means volunteers have easy access to one of Europe’s most cosmopolitan cities while living in a calm, community-oriented environment.

๐ก Did You Know? The concept of a “tiers-lieu” (third place) โ the kind of shared civic space that Le Monty embodies โ is a growing movement across France and Belgium. These spaces sit between home and work, offering a neutral, inclusive environment where citizens, creatives, and organisations can meet, collaborate, and build community. Le Monty is one of the newest examples of this movement in Wallonia, and ESC volunteers are joining it right at its founding moment.
