Are you drawn to arts, culture, civic life, and community spaces โ€” and open to spending time in the French-speaking Belgian countryside? Le Monty is a brand new shared cultural space in Genappe, Belgium โ€” a place designed to spark creativity, support citizens’ initiatives, and build synergies between people and the non-profit sector. Three ESC volunteers will join the Le Monty team to help run cultural events, welcome guests, assist with stage preparation, work alongside the TOF puppet theatre, and animate a space that is genuinely open to everyone. Private room in a shared apartment on-site, food and pocket money provided, French classes available. Deadline: 20 April 2026.
๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ช Did You Know? Genappe is a small municipality in the Walloon Brabant province of Belgium โ€” situated between Brussels and Namur, just 30 kilometres south of the Belgian capital. The region is part of the French-speaking Wallonia and is known for its gentle rolling countryside and quiet rural character. Being so close to Brussels means volunteers have easy access to one of Europe’s most cosmopolitan cities while living in a calm, community-oriented environment.

What Will You Do?

๐ŸŽชWelcome guests during events and thematic evenings at Le Monty โ€” including cinema club nights, trainings, and other community gatherings
๐ŸŽญCollaborate with the TOF Theatre โ€” a puppet show company based at Le Monty โ€” contributing to productions and cultural activities
๐Ÿ”จAssist with DIY tasks and stage preparation โ€” hands-on practical work to help set up and maintain the cultural space
๐ŸŽ‰Help implement cultural events โ€” from planning to execution, bringing energy and ideas to a space designed for community creativity
๐ŸปSupport entertainment and bar-keeping during events โ€” being a welcoming, active presence for the diverse audiences that Le Monty attracts
๐ŸŒShare your own culture and country with the local community โ€” Le Monty actively encourages volunteers to bring their own identity and background into the space
๐Ÿ’ก Did You Know? The concept of a “tiers-lieu” (third place) โ€” the kind of shared civic space that Le Monty embodies โ€” is a growing movement across France and Belgium. These spaces sit between home and work, offering a neutral, inclusive environment where citizens, creatives, and organisations can meet, collaborate, and build community. Le Monty is one of the newest examples of this movement in Wallonia, and ESC volunteers are joining it right at its founding moment.
