Description
Blivande is looking for two hands-on and proactive volunteers to support us with building our urban village and who enjoy working with gardening and urban food production. This role is available for 2 volunteers that will form a power team and want to take initiative to keep a public space clean and nice.
You will be a hands-on and practical support behind renovations, building projects, and overall support to the community in developing the space. You don’t need to be an expert, but have the curiosity to learn. As someone with a handy problem- solving attitude, you will contribute to ongoing European projects such as “Climate Quilts” and “Growing Beauty”, that focus on community building, urban gardening and placemaking.
In between tasks, you will have time to research ideas, materials, and solutions for improving the spaces. During the summer months, we host a public cultural program, where you will join the bigger team and support the logistics on the production days.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
You will have a private room, either in a shared flat or collective living. In addition to your pocket money, you’ll receive food allowance to buy and cook your own meals, giving you flexibility. For local transport, you can choose between a bicycle or a public transport card for the duration of your stay.
Training during the activity
Work with a diverse community and gain hands-on experience in urban gardening, placemaking, and building projects. Tasks are adapted to your abilities, allowing you to develop practical skills while contributing to meaningful initiatives. Learn to use a wide range of tools and materials for both indoor and outdoor projects, supported by training in safe working practices and building techniques. Strengthen your creativity through real-world problem-solving, collaborate in an international environment, and discover how ideas can transform spaces into vibrant places for people and animals alike.
Participant profile
As a volunteer you will thrive at Blivande if you are hands-on, proactive, and community-minded, and enjoy working in a creative and dynamic environment.
For this role it is important that you have a builder mindset, are not afraid of physical work and like fixing problems. It will be easier for you to jump into action if you have some previous experience with tools or urban gardening, but it is not a must. Curiosity to learn about these topics is more important. However, if you don’t like to work with your body on a daily basis, please check out our other roles, this one is for those that like to do physical work.
As you will work with a large variety of people, it is important that you enjoy helping others, have an inclusive mindset (we have many neurodivergent community members) and thrive in community settings, where many people need to be taken into account for decision making.
We are looking only for volunteers that want to spend an entire year with us from mid January 2027 to mid December 2027. We currently can’t accommodate different timelines, therefore we would ask you to only apply, if you can commit to the timeframe.
Please be aware that a lot of cultural productions happen during the weekend and evenings. This means that we have flexible working hours. Sometimes you will be working on weekends or evenings, but you can take daytime during the week off, to compensate and rest.
Part of your role includes supporting maintenance of the premises. Every team member (both staff and volunteers) have their areas of responsibility which helps us to keep the space clean and tidy for everyone.
