Created in December 1999, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction is the designated focal point in the United Nations system for the coordination of efforts to reduce disasters and to ensure synergies among the disaster reduction activities of the United Nations and regional organizations and activities in both developed and less developed countries.
Led by the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction, UNDRR has over 150 staff located in its headquarters in Geneva and in regional offices. UNDRR guides, monitors, analyses and reports on progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015 to 2030, supports regional and national implementation of the Framework, and catalyses action and increases global awareness to reduce disaster risk, working with UN Member States and a broad range of partners and stakeholders including civil society, the private sector, parliamentarians and the science and technology community.
This internship is located in the Intergovernmental Processes, Interagency Cooperation and Partnerships Branch, and the intern will be supervised by the Programme Management Officer.

๐ Duties
Responsibilities will depend on the individual's background, the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties may include:
๐ถ Support the analysis of national disaster risk reduction financing systems by collecting and organizing information on the status of DRR financing, including through using Microsoft CoPilot
๐จ Contribute to the development of communication materials to raise awareness of the Global Observatory on DRR Financing, including where appropriate infographics, short videos, presentations and other knowledge products
๐ Contribute to data visualization and the presentation of findings by preparing visual materials such as maps, graphs, dashboards using MS Power BI, and summary tables, to communicate information on DRR financing systems
๐ Draft analytical notes, background briefs, presentations and sections of reports summarizing findings and supporting ongoing initiatives
๐ช Provide ad hoc support for meetings, events, outreach and collaborative projects, including organizing internal and external meetings and technical workshops, preparing meeting minutes, talking points and communication materials, and supporting knowledge exchange activities
โ Qualifications and Special Skills
๐ Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school programme, meaning a second university degree or equivalent or higher, or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme, meaning minimum bachelor's level or equivalent
๐ A field of study closely related to the type of internship is required, while professional work experience is not required
๐ป Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, PowerPoint and MS Teams

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English is required for this internship, and knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset.
