How can young people and youth workers strengthen democratic participation in their communities? How can digital citizenship become a tool for inclusion, critical thinking and meaningful civic engagement?
This interactive two-part webinar series combines practical knowledge with collaborative learning. Participants will explore civic participation, digital citizenship, media literacy and community action design while exchanging experiences with peers from across Europe.
Whether you are a youth worker, educator, volunteer, local activist or anyone interested in empowering young people to participate in democratic life, these webinars will provide practical tools, inspiration and ready-to-use methods.
Webinar 1 โ Civic Participation & Digital Citizenship Foundations

During the first webinar, participants will explore:
- Different channels for civic participation (formal, non-formal and informal);
- Participatory budgeting through inspiring European examples;
- The Council of Europe's 10 Digital Citizenship Education domains;
- Misinformation, disinformation and practical fact-checking tools;
- The European DigComp framework;
- How to identify and mobilise community resources, partnerships and funding opportunities, including the CERV Programme;
- A real-life community transformation case study from Ostana;
- Guided reflection on personal and professional practice.
Webinar 2 โ Civic Challenge Design Lab
20 July 2026 | 10:00โ14:00 CET
The second webinar is entirely practice-oriented and focuses on transforming ideas into action.
Participants will:
- Revisit the key concepts from Webinar 1;
- Explore inspiring civic action initiatives from Italy, Portugal and Albania;
- Work collaboratively using the Civic Action Design Canvas;
- Design a small-scale civic initiative responding to a real community need;
- Receive mentoring and peer feedback;
- Present their project ideas;
- Complete the evaluation and identify concrete next steps for implementation.
By participating in this webinar series, participants will:
- Understand different forms of civic participation at local and European levels;
- Strengthen their digital citizenship competences;
- Improve their ability to recognise misinformation and use verification tools;
- Learn how to map community assets and identify funding opportunities;
- Develop practical skills for designing and planning civic initiatives;
- Exchange practices and build connections with professionals from different European countries.
