Purpose of the Assignment
The Public Partnerships and Resource Mobilization Division (PPR) works to strengthen UNICEF's position as a partner of choice for children's rights among governments and public actors around the world. The intern will acquire direct practical experience in the work of the PPR Asia-Pacific Pillar Office in Tokyo (PPR Tokyo) and the United Nations system by supporting the office's quality assurance, analysis and research, communication and administrative tasks related to resource mobilisation with the Government of Japan, under the general guidance of the supervisor, the Public Partnership Manager.
What You'll Do
๐ Support the review and analysis of donor proposals and reports prepared by UNICEF Country Offices.
๐ Support a series of analyses of Japan's ODA for children.
๐ Support translation, report writing and the preparation of any Japan-related documents and presentation materials.
๐ฃ Support the team's efforts to enhance donor visibility, through translation of press releases, videos and human-interest stories, as well as the production of other visibility content for the office's communication platforms.
๐ Support UNICEF's advocacy messages by gathering and organising information for key counterparts and media.
๐ Update and improve the Tokyo office's website as necessary.
๐ช Provide logistical and administrative support for advocacy events, consultations and workshops that the office will organize, and undertake any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Who Can Apply
๐ Currently enrolled in a university or a graduate school, or having graduated from a school within the past two years. Professional experience is desirable.
๐๏ธ Available to work 4-5 days a week for 3-6 months, and able to work in accordance with Japan Standard Time (JST).
๐ Interested in child rights, health, nutrition, water and sanitation, education, child protection, gender, climate change and other areas where UNICEF works. Experience and/or knowledge of international cooperation, humanitarian and development assistance and human security is desirable, as is working experience in project formulation and report writing.
๐ฌ Experience of translating communication materials is highly desirable; experience in public relations and/or event management is an asset; and experience in website management and video editing are an asset.
๐ป Ability to work with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Ability to work with advanced MS platforms such as Forms and Power BI, with analytical data management skills, will be an asset.
Languages
A high level of proficiency in both written and oral English and Japanese is required.
The Details
๐ Duty station: Tokyo, Japan. Work modality is negotiable; PPR Tokyo adopts a hybrid work modality (a combination of working in the office and teleworking).
๐๏ธ Duration of assignment: between September 2026 and August 2027 (more than 3 months, up to 6 months).
๐ถ Payment of stipend: PPR Tokyo provides a lump sum of JPY 5,500 per day, inclusive of transport costs. The selected candidate is solely responsible for ensuring that the visa (as applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Appointments may also be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid).
