About the Role
The internship is located in the Water and Industrial Safety Section, Environment and Forests Division, of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in Geneva. The Division safeguards the environment and human health and promotes sustainable development in line with the 2030 Agenda. The intern contributes to the work of the secretariat of the Convention on the Transboundary Effects of Industrial Accidents.
Responsibilities
๐ช Support the organisation of the fourteenth meeting of the Convention's Conference of the Parties and the preceding seminar on chemicals safety
๐ Prepare draft presentations and inputs for reports, documents, and project proposals on industrial accident prevention, preparedness, and response, including emerging risks
๐ฌ Conduct research and contribute analytical inputs on topics such as land-use planning, accidental water pollution, mine tailings safety, energy transition risks, and natural hazard-triggered technological disasters (Natech)
๐ค Support the preparation of meetings and capacity-building activities under the Convention's Assistance and Cooperation Programme
๐ Identify linkages between the Convention, the SDGs, the Sendai Framework, and other policy processes
๐ Support the Convention's web page, communication materials (brochures, flyers, articles, social media), and proofreading
Who Can Apply
๐ Enrolled in or having completed a graduate programme, or in the final academic year of a first university degree, in environmental studies, economics, international relations, international law, or social or political studies
๐ป Computer literate, with a demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations
๐ฃ๏ธ Fluency in English is required; working knowledge of French and/or Russian is an asset
