A medieval castle in the heart of the Austrian Alps, 40 young people from 5 countries, and ten days dedicated to one of the most urgent questions of our time: how do we protect democracy in the digital age? This Erasmus+ Youth Exchange is not a lecture series โ it is an immersive, creative, and deeply human experience.
Guardians of Democracy: Resilient Minds in the Digital Age brings together young people aged 18 to 30 from Austria, Greece, Romania, Poland, and Turkey at Europaburg Forchtenstein โ a real medieval castle in Neumarkt, Steiermark โ for a journey through media literacy, civic engagement, digital wellbeing, and intercultural connection.
What Is This Project About?
The project is built around six interconnected themes that together form a complete picture of what it means to be an informed, resilient, and active citizen in the digital era.
๐๏ธ Media Literacy & Digital Manipulation โ Explore how fake news, manipulation, and biased information spread online. Participants will practise fact-checking, source verification, and critical thinking using real case studies.
๐ณ๏ธ Democracy & Active Citizenship โ Reflect on the role of young people in democratic life. The project encourages civic engagement, dialogue, and understanding how each person can contribute to society.
๐ฑ Digital Well-being & Resilience โ Discover how digital overload affects brain cognition, emotions, and decision-making. Participants will learn simple tools for mindful media usage and nervous system regulation.
๐ Intercultural Exchange โ Meet young people from Austria, Romania, Poland, Greece, and Turkey. 40 stories, one common goal: to learn, to listen, and to build together โ both knowledge and lasting connections.
๐จ Creative Learning & Expression โ The project uses debates, workshops, simulations, reflection, and media creation. Participants will express ideas through videos, posters, blogs, and group activities.
๐๏ธ Local Action & Impact โ The learning continues after the exchange. Each national team will prepare a local action plan to share the project message in their own community. Be the Guardian of democracy beyond the walls of the castle.
