Are you ready to take your volunteering experience beyond Europe and make a real difference in the lives of children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds? The SOLARIC project is looking for 3 European Solidarity Corps volunteers to work in public schools in Nansana, a suburb of Kampala, Uganda โ€” supporting formal and informal education, facilitating arts, music, and sports activities, and assisting in vocational training programmes including digital literacy, carpentry, performing arts, and entrepreneurship. This cross-continental project is coordinated by three organisations across Bulgaria, Uganda, and Spain, and offers a genuinely transformative volunteering experience for open-minded young people ready to embrace cultural diversity and community-driven work.
๐ŸŒ Did You Know? Uganda has one of the youngest populations in the world โ€” over 75% of its people are under 30. As a volunteer in Nansana, you won’t just be teaching: you’ll be working alongside a generation full of energy, creativity, and ambition.

What Will You Do as a Volunteer?

๐Ÿ“šSupport formal and informal education in local public schools in Nansana, working directly with children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds
๐ŸŽจFacilitate arts, music, and sports activities for children and youth, creating engaging and joyful learning experiences beyond the standard curriculum
๐Ÿ’ปAssist in vocational training programmes including digital literacy, carpentry, performing arts, and entrepreneurship โ€” practical skills that change lives
๐ŸคCollaborate closely with local teachers, trainers, and community members to co-create meaningful and culturally sensitive learning experiences
๐ŸŒEngage in cultural exchange activities, building bridges between European and Ugandan communities through shared values and mutual learning
๐ŸŽ’ Fun Fact: Nansana is one of the fastest-growing urban areas in East Africa. Volunteering here means being part of a dynamic, evolving community โ€” not a static one. Every day will look different.

Accommodation, Food & Travel

๐Ÿ Volunteers stay in shared rooms/dormitory at Uganda Pioneers Association’s office in Nansana โ€” with bunk beds, a common kitchen with water, gas, and electricity provided
๐ŸณVolunteers manage their own meals, either cooking together or individually โ€” local markets and supermarkets in Nansana offer affordable and diverse food options
๐ŸšŒDaily commuting to project sites is done on foot or by public transport (taxis/matatus), with boda bodas (motorcycle taxis) used for shorter distances
โœˆ๏ธTravel to Uganda is organised by the sending organisations in your home country โ€” you will not need to arrange this independently
๐Ÿ›ต Did You Know? Boda bodas โ€” the iconic motorcycle taxis of East Africa โ€” are a major part of daily life in Kampala. Getting around on one is a quintessential Ugandan experience you won’t forget!

Training & Learning

๐Ÿ’ปBefore departure, you will receive online pre-departure training provided by Cazalla Intercultural (Spain) and IOA (Bulgaria), covering project expectations, cultural adaptation, and logistical preparation
๐ŸซOn-site training coordinated by Uganda Pioneers Association will include an introduction to local communities, observation practice, workshops on teaching methods, youth engagement, and cultural exchange
๐Ÿ› ๏ธYou will receive practical training in vocational skills, arts, and environmental initiatives directly relevant to your day-to-day activities in the schools
๐Ÿ”„Weekly reflection sessions are held throughout the project to share experiences, process learning, and collaboratively plan upcoming activities
