FabLab NiMa, a digital fabrication workshop in รvaly, near Prague, is offering a 6-month, full-time master's thesis traineeship in Czechia, starting in February 2027. You will build a digital twin of a hotel room and test which housekeeping tasks a robot can take over. At Youth Works Hub, we reviewed the full offer: applications close on 31 January 2027 (Brussels time).
What Is the Hotel Housekeeping Robot Project?
FabLab NiMa and BoHo, which runs Miss Sophie's hotels and hostels in Prague and Olomouc, are starting a project to find out which housekeeping tasks a robot can take over. BoHo provides access to real rooms, its housekeeping manager and test time in empty rooms. This master's thesis is phase 1 of that project.
Who Is FabLab NiMa?

What You Will Do in Your Thesis
โฑ๏ธ Observe and time the cleaning routine at Miss Sophie's Downtown and select one cloth task (bed linen) and one contact task (sink or toilet).
๐ฅ๏ธ Build a digital twin of a real room and bathroom in MuJoCo or Gazebo with ROS 2.
๐ฆพ Model two or three candidate robots and compare reach, payload and footprint.
๐งช Implement the two tasks in simulation and measure success rate, cycle time and failure modes.
๐ ๏ธ Assemble a low-cost open-source dual-arm robot in the lab, design and 3D print a compliant cleaning tool, add force sensing and close a force control loop on a curved surface.
๐ Recommend which task to automate first and with which robot.
Open Research Problems and Empty-Room Testing
Some of these tasks are open research problems. The goal is to measure how far current methods get, not to solve them. All tests take place in empty rooms with no guests present.
From Simulation to a Real Robot: Phase 2
The results of this thesis feed a follow-up project with a real robot in the hotels, and you may be able to continue in phase 2. After the thesis, the traineeship can be extended up to 12 months in total, if both sides agree.
