VERTICAL VOICES is a 6-day Erasmus+ training for youth workers on using smartphones, storytelling and vertical video in non-formal education, with hands-on filming, editing, facilitation, inclusion, consent and ethical publishing.

How can we turn the smartphone from just another screen into a meaningful storytelling tool for youth work?

VERTICAL VOICES is a practical Erasmus+ training course for youth workers who want to use storytelling, smartphones and short-form vertical video as tools for participation, self-expression and non-formal learning.

This is not a week of PowerPoints. Participants will learn primarily by doing: developing stories, filming, editing, experimenting, giving feedback, facilitating activities and reflecting on how the methods can be transferred into their own work with young people.

During the training, we will explore:

• storytelling as a tool for youth work

• finding and structuring meaningful stories

• smartphone filming and visual storytelling

• creating short vertical video content with accessible tools

• basic editing and practical content-production workflows

• facilitation methods that can be used with young people

• inclusion and participation of young people with fewer opportunities

• consent, privacy, safeguarding and responsible publishing

• peer feedback, reflection and adaptation of methods to different youth-work contexts

The methodology is based on non-formal education, learning by doing, experiential learning, storytelling laboratories, small-group work, peer feedback, practical creation tasks and reflection.

The training is primarily aimed at youth workers, youth leaders, trainers, facilitators, youth project managers, NGO staff and active volunteers who work directly with young people in non-formal learning settings.

Participants should be 18+, able to work in English and motivated to apply the methods after returning home. Previous professional filmmaking experience is not required. What matters is an active connection to youth work and a willingness to experiment, create and participate fully.

Participants will also be expected to transfer what they learn into their local youth-work practice after the training.

The project brings together participants from Germany, Portugal, North Macedonia, Serbia, Greece, Türkiye and Georgia.

Participation fee

There is no participation fee. Participation in the training course is fully supported by the Erasmus+ Programme.

Accommodation and food

Accommodation and meals during the activity are organised by Talent Push e.V. and fully covered by the Erasmus+ project. Participants do not pay for accommodation or food. Accommodation is in shared rooms at the training venue in Berlin-Heiligensee. Three meals per day and coffee breaks will be provided. Dietary requirements and relevant accessibility or wellbeing needs will be collected before the activity.

Travel reimbursement

Travel costs will be reimbursed according to Erasmus+ rules and the approved project budget, up to the eligible maximum amount for each participant. Participants must keep all relevant travel documents and should have their travel arrangements approved before purchasing tickets. Maximum approved green-travel amounts per participant: Germany: up to €285 Greece: up to €309 Serbia: up to €309 North Macedonia: up to €309 Portugal: up to €395 Türkiye: up to €395 Georgia: up to €395 Reimbursement cannot exceed the participant's actual eligible travel costs. The German flow carries €285 per person under the 100–499 km green-travel band. The approved international participant flows use €309 for the 500–1,999 km band and €395 for the 2,000–2,999 km band.
