Imagine 28 days in the mountains of Gran Canaria with a small international team, turning cleanups into art, waste into wisdom, and a rural patch of Spain into a living campus that grows a little more with every group that passes through. That is the heart of RE:GENERATION, a European Solidarity Corps volunteering team run by Stichting Route 66 in Arteara, Gran Canaria. It is hands-on, plant-based, creative and deeply communal — and, like all ESC projects, it is funded so that money is not the thing standing between you and the experience. About RE:GENERATION

🌱 This is a 28-day ESC volunteering team bringing together 6–8 young people to create, regenerate and inspire change in the mountains of Gran Canaria. The project is hosted by Stichting Route 66.

🏕️ Every team becomes part of the Regenerate Future Campus — a place that grows with each group. You do not just visit; you contribute your skills, ideas and actions to something that the next team will build on, leaving a meaningful legacy behind you.

🌿 The programme blends environmental action, creativity and community living, wrapped around Route 66's Waste to Wisdom philosophy of turning found and discarded materials into something new and valuable.

What You'll Actually Do

The work is practical and varied. Across the four weeks the team takes on:

🧹 3–4 clean-ups in the surrounding area.

🌾 1–2 nature regeneration actions, restoring and caring for the local environment.

♻️ Weekly upcycling and creating with found materials, the core of the Waste to Wisdom approach — building, making and repurposing rather than buying new.

📸 Turning actions into stories — participants transform what they do into awareness campaigns, photography, video and social media content, so the impact reaches far beyond the mountain.

The Green and Digital Skills You'll Build

This project is designed so that doing the work is the learning. You develop two clear skill sets:

🌍 Green skills — through upcycling, circular thinking, the Waste to Wisdom method, nature regeneration, biodiversity, and working with found materials.

💻 Digital skills — through photography, video editing, social media and awareness campaigns.

🎨 Alongside these, the programme deliberately grows creativity, teamwork, plant-based living and shared responsibility, and asks you to reflect on your personal impact and the legacy you leave for future groups.

Daily Life: Plant-Based and Slow Living

🥗 Plant-based and slow living are part of the experience, not an add-on. Teams rotate cooking, shopping and shared responsibilities, so community life — cooking, cleaning and caring for the shared home — is woven into the project itself.

🤝 You learn by doing, by caring for each other, and by leaving something meaningful behind. It is a lifestyle for four weeks as much as a work programme.

Accommodation, Food and Getting Around

🏠 Volunteers stay in two shared accommodations in the mountains of Gran Canaria. Bedding, towels, kitchen towels and a washing machine are provided, and there are two outdoor kitchens.

🍅 Food is provided within the project budget. Participants organise the shopping and prepare their own plant-based / vegetarian meals in rotating teams.

🚐 The area is rural with limited public transport, so Route 66 arranges transport for all organised project activities.

Who They're Looking For

👥 The project welcomes motivated young adults aged 20–30 who are ready to contribute, learn and live as part of an international team. No professional experience is required — curiosity, initiative and teamwork matter most.

🎬 They especially welcome creative storytellers interested in social media, photography, filming or video editing, and hands-on makers who enjoy upcycling, building, gardening and working with found materials.

🌱 They particularly welcome vegetarians and young people curious to experience a vegan / plant-based way of eating and living. You should be open to outdoor work, shared responsibilities, and caring for each other and nature.

Learning and Youthpass

📗 Learning is hands-on and part of daily project life, and it is formally recognised: your outcomes are documented through Youthpass. You reflect throughout on your personal impact and the legacy you leave, so you finish with both real experience and a recognised record of the competences you built.

📆 A total of 4 weeks (28 days) within the period 02 October 2026 to 30 November 2026, in Arteara, Gran Canaria.
