Description

AtivArte is a long-term European Solidarity Corps volunteering project hosted by JVF in Arcos de Valdevez, Portugal. We are looking for 2 motivated volunteers who want to use creativity and art to work with local children and young people. No professional artistic or teaching background is required – only willingness to learn, share, try new things and collaborate with others.Volunteers will help develop meaningful and participatory activities, promote intercultural dialogue and mutual learning, and strengthen community life. Throughout the project, they will be supported by an experienced youth work team, have the chance to explore rural Portugal and contribute to local initiatives. The project supports the development of personal, social and language competences while increasing the visibility and impact of JVF at local and European level.

Volunteer 1 project dates: 13/10/2026 to 30/06/2027

Volunteer 2 project dates: 13/10/2026 to 12/03/2027


Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Accommodation: Pousadinha (a small house that belongs to the organization).

The volunteers may have to share the room (with another volunteer with the same gender).

Food: Lunch and afternoon snacks during the week will be under the organization’s responsibility. For the rest of the meals, we will give 125€/month to each volunteer for groceries and/or restaurants.

Pocket money: 6€/day given to the volunteers at the beginning of each month


Training during the activity

The volunteers will take part in the ESC training cycle.

Pre-departure: provided by the support organization;

Arrival training: provided by the coordinating organization;

On-arrival and mid-term: provided by the Portuguese National Agency;

Support on the activities: provided by the hosting organization;

Portuguese classes: will be given by a Portuguese teacher (local volunteer) at the organization.


Participant profile

We are looking for volunteers who are:

- aged 18–30 and legally residing in an ESC programme country;

- open-minded, respectful and responsible;

- interested in working with children and young people;

- willing to try creative and non-formal methods, even if it is new for them;

- able to communicate in English, Portuguese or Spanish at a basic level;

- ready to live in a small town and adapt to a quieter lifestyle;

- motivated to participate in the full project period.
