The Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA) is an entity within the Secretariat of the UN, established in 2003. It is unique in that it is dedicated specifically to the Africa region and focuses on Africa's priorities and international support to Africa's development. OSAA's core functions are advisory, advocacy, coordination and monitoring. The Office works with all parts of the UN system in an effort to ensure coherence in the critical work of the UN on the inter-related issues of peace, security and development in Africa. The intern will report to the Communications Team leader and, under the supervision of the Communications team, will support the Office's visual and digital communications work.
What You Will Do
Under the supervision of the Communications team, the intern may support any of the following activities:
๐ฅ๏ธ Desktop publishing and design: assist in the layout and design of OSAA knowledge products (for example, factsheets, policy briefs and papers), support the creation of digital assets such as flyers, visuals, and graphics, and provide technical assistance in preparing visual assets for OSAA publications
๐ฌ Video production and editing: support the production and editing of multimedia content for OSAA's social media accounts
๐ฑ Social media and web content support: assist in preparing multimedia content for OSAA's social media and website, and support improvements to the layout and presentation of existing content
๐ Data visualization and technical support: assist in creating simple data visualizations for reports and presentations, and provide technical input for improving the visual quality of OSAA materials

Who Can Apply
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience; however, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of a first university degree (bachelor's or equivalent), a Master's or Ph.D. programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or Ph.D. programme. You will have to indicate which of these criteria you meet and attach proof to the application, and provide an official certificate at a later stage. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Canva is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship, and knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

Funding and Visa
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work or employment authorization, and successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
