Description
This voluntary activity will be held in the “Ca' Rossa” (Red House), a residential house where about 12 people between 18 and 65 years old live. The users have mental health issues and/or intellective disability, with mainly rehabilitative needs and no need for continuous health care. The living environment fosters individual and social emancipation processes and the personal independence of the guests who are invited to develop their hobbies and abilities and express specific needs. The volunteer will be involved in the every day activities connected to the autonomy of the users in daily life, recreactional activities and creative workshops.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The volunteer will work 32-35 hours a week and could work from monday to sunday with two days off per week and two day holidays per month to be used according to the volunteer’s needs but always to be agreed with the supervisor. He/she will live in a single room in a flat with other ESC volunteers; the flat is composed by 4 single rooms, one bathroom, one kitchen and a living room). The volunteer will have a bicycle to move freely in the city.
Training during the activity
The volunteer will have the opportunity to learn how to deal with people with disabilities, how to work in a team. He/she will be offered an italian course to improve/learn the language. He/she will have the opportunity to attend some trainings about multiculture, volunteering, etc. and to meet other volunteers hosted in the same area. In the same time we will host about 7 volunteers in the same city so the volunteer will have the opportunity to meet other cultures.

What we are looking for in a volunteer? - It’s preferable that the volunteer have a strong interest in people with intellective disability or with mental issues; - It's preferable that the volunteer have flexibility and desire to get involved; - Some knowledge of the Italian language, or a strong will to learn it!
