Description

The role introduces digital empowerment as a key innovation, tackling the digital divide in Uganda. By equipping youth workers and local communities with digital skills and creative tools, the project fosters innovation, productivity, and socio-economic transformation, especially in underserved areas. // RESPONSIBILITIES: Facilitate knowledge-building and sharing among UPA staff members on digital skills and communication; Conduct training sessions on digital communication and marketing strategies for UPA members, focusing on social media platforms; Assist in managing and upgrading UPA’s digital platforms; Design a training plan, identify beneficiaries, and find ways to implement the plan among UPA members and partners; Build capacity by conducting ICT training sessions for UPA staff and other local partner organizations/projects (including schools and other Community-Based Organizations); Conduct monitoring and evaluation activities before and after the trainings.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Accommodation will be provided in a shared apartment with other volunteers, each having a private, lockable bedroom, located in the suburbs of Kampala (Nansana or Kasubi-Nakulabye). A monthly allowance will cover food, communication expenses, and transportation. The volunteer will travel daily to the project site. Public transport in Kampala mainly consists of commuter taxis (Matatus), while shorter distances are typically covered using motorbikes known as Boda Bodas.

Training during the activity

The volunteer will participate in an online pre-departure training, followed by an in-person intensive induction upon arrival at the host organization. Additionally, the volunteer will receive financial support and encouragement to learn the local language.

Participant profile

POSITION IS NOT SUITABLE FOR CANDIDATES WITH PREVIOUS ESC/EVS/EU VOLUNTEERING EXPERIENCE EXCEEDING 5 MONTHS. We are looking for a motivated and tech-savvy individual with a background or strong interest in digital communications, ICT, marketing, education, or a related field. The ideal candidate is creative, adaptable, and enthusiastic about using digital tools to drive social and economic change in underserved communities. Experience with social media management, digital training, or capacity building is an advantage. The volunteer should be comfortable designing and facilitating training sessions, working with diverse local partners, and engaging respectfully in a cross-cultural environment
