Description

We are glad to welcome you to La Bascule, a small reuse centre (“ressourcerie”) in Argenton-sur-Creuse, in the centre of France! Our aim is to promote environmentally friendly behaviours and diminish the consumerism. We encourage the reuse of objects, teach the public to repair what is broken, and create awareness of accumulation of waste. The nature of our project also encourages an important social diversity. We have two shops, providing all kind of objects for sale for solidarity prices. You would be included in all aspects of the project, including refurbishing of objects (collecting, sorting, cleaning, repairing, and eventually up-cycling), helping in the shops, and animation of workshops and events. Argenton-sur-Creuse is a small and charming town on the river Creuse with all facilities, including cinema, theatre, swimming pool, shops, bars and restaurants and more. During the summer you could enjoy many famous festival in our region and in our city ! 

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteer will live in a flat in Argenton-sur-Creuse city center (small town with 5000 inhabitants) with others volounteers. The volunteers will have his own room but share kitchen and bathroom with the other volunteer. The place of the mission is 1km from there, so we will lend a bicycle to go there everyday and for your life there. 

here is a train station with direct connection to Paris (2,5 hours) and Three hours to go in the mountain and the see by car. There are beautiful surroundings to explore. 


The volunteer will get money for food and pocket money 

Training during the activity

You could do french lesson with one of our partner in Châteauroux. The volunteers will take part in the welcome and mid-term training organised by the National Agency.

 The volunteer also will take part in the training for the national civil services (2 days). They will have the possibility to train according to their needs and their willings. Also, trainings as : valorisation of reused items, bicycles repair, electric and electronic repair, sale

Participant profile

We are looking for someone autonomous and eager to learn, interested in environment, as well as social diversity. The ideal candidate is willing to work manually, flexible and able to change activities, open and comfortable to work with diverse public. S/he should be able to have a conversation in English, and we will appreciate some basics of French, but that is not compulsory. S/he should also be comfortable to spend time in countryside.
