🔷 Activity Details
Description
In the “ESC 4 European Youth Goals – Short Mobility” project, volunteers will take part in a six-week European Solidarity Corps experience in Beja, Portugal. They will support the daily activities of Check-IN Association and its European Centre, including communication, design, and the promotion of European opportunities.
Volunteers will design and deliver educational workshops and non-formal learning activities focused on the European Youth Goals, European values, and active citizenship. They will also support the delivery of “Time to Move” activities at local level as part of the Eurodesk network. In addition, they will organise and facilitate workshops and game-based sessions for the local community, involving young people, adults, and older people.
Through these activities, volunteers will promote intercultural dialogue, inclusion, creativity, and community participation, while developing their organisational, communication, digital, teamwork, and facilitation skills.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Volunteers will stay in a rented house in the centre of Beja, within walking distance of all project activities, so local transport is not required. The house is shared with other volunteers and Check-IN team members. Two rooms, for three and two people, will be allocated by gender. Beds, bed linen and blankets are provided. Each volunteer will receive a €180 food allowance and can cook in the fully equipped kitchen. Smoking consumption are not permitted inside the house.
Training during the activity
Volunteers will receive on-arrival training for 3 days, continuous mentoring and practical support throughout the 2 months activity. Training will cover the European Youth Goals, European values, non-formal education, workshop development, facilitation, communication, design and the promotion of European opportunities. Regular reflection and evaluation sessions will support the development of personal, social, digital, intercultural, teamwork and organisational skills, documented through Youthpass.
Participant profile
We are looking for motivated young people aged 18–30 who are interested in European values, the European Youth Goals, non-formal education, and community engagement. Participants should be creative, responsible, open-minded, and willing to contribute actively within an international team. An interest in communication, design, social media, youth work, or the organisation of workshops and local activities is particularly welcome. No previous experience is required. What matters most is motivation, a willingness to learn, and an interest in making a positive contribution to the local community. The project is inclusive and strongly encourages applications from young people with fewer opportunities.
