This position is located in the Chinese Unit, News Section II, News and Content Branch, News and Media Division, Department of Global Communications. The Unit is looking for interns who wish to gain hands-on experience in a multilingual UN newsroom, particularly in the production of news, feature stories, short-form videos and multimedia content for Chinese-speaking audiences.

The News and Content Branch is primarily a multimedia service provided by the United Nations to promote the universal ideals of the United Nations, including peace, respect for human rights and developments. It produces a range of news and feature stories, audio, video and multimedia products across nine languages, available to media organizations around the world.
๐ฐ The Intern's Duties May Include
โ๏ธ Drafting Chinese news articles by integrating and translating information from reports, press releases, official statements, resolutions and other UN materials
๐ฌ Translating English video scripts, captions and other editorial content into Chinese
๐ Proofreading and fact-checking Chinese-language content before publication
๐ Conducting background research and assisting with editorial planning
๐ฑ Assisting in the production of videos, social media content and multimedia storytelling projects
๐ค Conducting interviews and supporting field reporting assignments
๐ฅ Filming and editing short-form videos for social media platforms
๐ฃ Assisting with audience engagement and outreach activities
๐ก Participating in editorial meetings and contributing story ideas

โ Qualifications and Special Skills
๐ Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school programme in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, English or translation studies, meaning a second university degree or equivalent or higher, or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme in those fields, meaning minimum bachelor's level or equivalent
๐ป Be computer literate in standard word processing and spreadsheet software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel or similar
๐บ๐ณ Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter
๐ Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views

โ๏ธ Excellent written Chinese and strong English-language skills
๐ Demonstrated interest in journalism, international affairs and United Nations issues

๐ฃ๏ธ Languages
English or French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in both English and Chinese is required, and knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.

โณ The duration of the internship is a minimum of 4 months with a possibility of extension up to 6 months
๐ The internship is unpaid, in person and full-time at 35 hours per week on United Nations premises in New York, and it is designed to be full-time and in-person but can be adjusted based on the needs of the successful candidate to part-time at 20 hours per week and to remote work
