🔷 Activity Details
Description
APRODEH works to defend and promote human rights in Lima, Ayacucho, Apurímac and Huancavelica. Its work focuses on strategic litigation and strengthening organisations of women, LGBTIQ+ people, Andean producers and victims of violence. Based in Lima, the volunteer will work with their mentor, the Legal Team and regional offices to:
* Support commemorative events in Lima.
* Expand the Memory Map with information on the victims remembered at each site.
* Create a virtual portfolio of human rights cases to support access and dissemination.
* Help regional offices raise awareness of victims of past and present violations.
* Contribute to APRODEH’s strategy on historical memory as a tool for defending human rights.
* Promote exchanges on the role of memory in building a democratic society.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
APRODEH will arrange suitable accommodation with a private lockable bedroom, access to a bathroom, living and dining areas, kitchen, laundry facilities, reliable internet, kitchenware and a refrigerator. It will be located in a safe area near the office, within walking distance or a short bus ride, and close to essential services. APRODEH will co-sign the rental agreement as guarantor and ensure that the rent is paid monthly.
Training during the activity
The volunteer will receive training on APRODEH’s work, with a particular focus on historical memory related to political violence in 1980–2000, November 2020 and December 2022–January 2023. They will review the work of other organisations and past and ongoing projects to understand APRODEH’s experience. They will develop skills in knowledge management, management tools, content preparation and presentation, and contribute to reports and project proposals.
Participant profile
Ideally, the volunteer should share APRODEH’s values of respect for human rights, equality and solidarity, and be motivated to support people and communities in vulnerable situations. A background in social sciences and basic knowledge of human rights are desirable. The candidate should be interested in Peruvian culture, have strong research, organisational and Spanish writing skills, and ideally some knowledge of Peru or Latin America.
