🔷 Activity Details
Description
Join an international team of 7 young volunteers to help bring new life to a forgotten mountain village in Arcadia, Greece. Through natural building, stone restoration, regenerative land management and community living, you will contribute to the rehabilitation of abandoned rural heritage while learning practical green skills alongside experienced mentorsa and trainers. Over 14 days, 7 participants will work with traditional materials such as earth, lime, stone and wood, share daily life in an international community, discover local culture and explore how rural regeneration can become part of Europe’s Green Transition. No previous experience is required! Only curiosity, motivation and a willingness to learn by doing.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Volunteers will be hosted in The Crossroads Urban Villa, an urban eco-community in the town of Megalopoli. They will stay in shared or private rooms depending on availability, with access to a common kitchen, bathrooms, garden and communal living spaces. Three nutritious vegetarian meals per day, snacks and coffee/tea will be provided throughout the activity. Meals will be prepared collectively whenever possible, creating opportunities for cultural exchange and community building while using seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. Megalopoli is easily reached by bus from Athens.
Training during the activity
This volunteering experience combines hands-on work with non-formal learning. Participants will develop practical skills in natural building, traditional restoration, teamwork, intercultural communication and sustainable community living through learning-by-doing, daily reflection, mentoring and peer learning. The experience supports personal growth while introducing participants to regenerative practices that can be transferred to their own communities. Learning outcomes will be recognised through Youthpass.
Participant profile
We are looking for young people aged 18–30 who are curious, open-minded and motivated to contribute to the regeneration of rural communities. You do not need previous experience in natural building or construction. We welcome beginners who are willing to learn, work collaboratively and actively participate in community life. Ideal participants are: * interested in sustainability, traditional building or rural regeneration; * comfortable with outdoor physical work; * willing to live simply and share responsibilities within an international group; * respectful of diversity and motivated to learn from others; * excited to discover Greek culture and contribute to a meaningful collective project. This project values enthusiasm, cooperation and a positive attitude! The Crossroads welcomes people from diverse backgrounds and encourages applications from those who wish to explore a more sustainable, inclusive and mindful way of living closer to nature while contributing to the Green Transition of Megalopolis and its local community. Travel costs will be reimbursed according to the European Solidarity Corps distance bands. Green travel is strongly encouraged and participants travelling by train, bus or other low-emission means of transport may benefit from additional travel days. Where applicable, the project can also provide support with visa procedures and reimburse eligible visa-related costs in accordance with the ESC programme rules and available project budget.
