Do you want to work at the heart of migration, integration and anti trafficking efforts? The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Country Office for Austria in Vienna is offering an internship with its Labour Mobility and Social Inclusion (LMI) Unit and Counter Trafficking (CT) Unit.
About IOM
Established in 1951, IOM is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration, committed to the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits migrants and society. The IOM Country Office for Austria analyses national migration issues and emerging trends and includes six units: Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration, Counter Trafficking, Labour Mobility and Social Inclusion, Operations, Policy Research and Migration Law, and Resource Management.
The Units
๐ค The Labour Mobility and Social Inclusion Unit supports the two way integration process: capacity building for receiving communities and local authorities, engagement with migrants and the media to highlight positive contributions and support digital storytelling, and empowerment of migrants regarding civic participation and protection against discrimination.
๐ก๏ธ The Counter Trafficking Unit builds the capacities of Austrian stakeholders to identify potential trafficked persons, conducts awareness raising on human trafficking, contributes to policymaking including the National Action Plan against Human Trafficking, and provides direct support such as airport assistance and, when possible, an in kind reintegration grant.
What You'll Do
๐๏ธ Assist IOM Austria to implement project activities regarding integration and counter trafficking.
๐ Provide administrative and organizational support in compiling training content and materials.
โ๏ธ Assist in drafting and editing newsletter articles, brochures, narrative reports and other texts.
๐ Assist in translating and proofreading project documents (English and German).
๐๏ธ Attend meetings and conferences and take minutes.
๐ช Support organizing events, meetings and travel, assist in research activities and virtual trainings, plus other duties.
Who Can Apply
๐ Have a specific interest in, or studies covering, areas relevant to IOM programmes.
๐๏ธ Hold a scholarship for international organization placements, require the internship to complete studies, or be sponsored by a government, NGO or academia.
๐ Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree (minimum bachelor's level) or have graduated in the last 12 months.
๐ Be between 20 and 36 years of age with less than two years of relevant working experience.
A minimum bachelor level degree in Political Science, International Relations, Migration Studies, Law, Social Science or related fields is required. Affinity for IT, knowledge of migration and asylum governance in Austria and the EU, strong social and intercultural skills and excellent communication are assets.
Languages
Excellent oral and written command of German and English is required. Other languages are an asset.
The Details
๐ Location: IOM Country Office for Austria, Vienna, starting 1 August 2026.
๐๏ธ Duration: until 30 September 2026, extendable to a maximum of six months. Part time (minimum 30 hours) or full time (39.3 hours) per week; interviews are virtual.
๐ถ Depending on experience and location, interns receive a small monthly stipend (interns with a university allowance or scholarship including remuneration or credits are not eligible). IOM covers interns against occupational accidents and illnesses free of charge; interns arrange their own non occupational medical insurance and cover travel, visas and related expenses.
