Do you want to amplify young people's voices for gender equality? The United Nations Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) in Skopje is offering an internship with its Human Rights and Gender Thematic Group, focused on communication, advocacy and youth mobilization on gender equality.
About the Role
The Human Rights and Gender Thematic Group promotes gender equality and human rights across UN initiatives, with an emphasis on inclusive participation and social change. Communication, advocacy and youth engagement are key pillars for amplifying young people's voices and fostering intergenerational dialogue. Under the supervision of the RCO and in coordination with the Group, the intern contributes across communication, youth mobilization, coordination and knowledge management.
What You'll Do
๐ฃ Communication and advocacy: support communication and advocacy initiatives with a strong youth oriented approach, develop advocacy messages, talking points, briefing notes and visibility materials for young audiences, create content such as social media posts, short articles, visuals and presentations, support data informed advocacy through data visualizations, and assist the RCO in supporting the UN Country Team.
๐ Youth mobilization: engage youth groups, student associations, youth led CSOs and networks on gender equality, women's empowerment and human rights, mobilize young people for consultations, campaigns and events, and support youth focused dialogues, workshops and panels.
๐ช Coordination and events: assist joint UN gender campaigns, coordinate partners and follow up with stakeholders, and support consultations with local NGOs and youth organizations.
๐ Knowledge management: review and summarize documents, strategies and reports, maintain databases of stakeholders and initiatives, support UN reporting, and perform other related tasks.
Who Can Apply
๐ Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
๐ Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent).
Studies in communications or advocacy are desired. A closely related field of study is required, with proof of eligibility. Good knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint, Teams and Excel is expected; familiarity with digital and AI communication tools is an advantage. A demonstrated interest in gender equality and women's empowerment, understanding of communication and advocacy, ability to work with youth and civil society, and previous engagement in youth activities are desirable.
Languages
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Macedonian and Albanian is desirable.
The Details
๐ Location: Skopje.
๐๏ธ Expected duration: 01 August 2026 to 31 January 2027. The intern needs a computer and reliable internet; the UN Mission provides access to necessary software and databases.
๐ผ Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Travel, visas, accommodation and living costs are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
