If you have a legal background and a passion for human rights and international justice, this remote internship at Africa Legal Aid (AFLA) offers meaningful, hands-on experience. You will contribute to research, advocacy, and capacity-building, monitor proceedings at the International Criminal Court, and support AFLA's flagship publications, all under the supervision of seasoned international justice lawyers, from anywhere in the world.

About the Organisation

Africa Legal Aid (AFLA) is an organisation dedicated to the promotion of human rights and international justice. AFLA is proud of its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Its work includes advocacy on major international justice issues; for example, in the lead-up to the review of the Kampala Amendments on the Crime of Aggression by the Assembly of States Parties to the International Criminal Court (ICC), AFLA mobilised the responsible ministers of African States Parties to the ICC to raise awareness and foster ownership, advocating for a crime of aggression regime that is fair and legitimate, aligned with the rules applied to the other core crimes of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.

Your Responsibilities

๐Ÿ“š Conducting research and documenting human rights and international justice issues

๐ŸŽ“ Organising and supporting AFLA's capacity-building programmes

๐Ÿ“ฃ Supporting AFLA's advocacy initiatives

โš–๏ธ Monitoring proceedings and developments at the International Criminal Court

๐Ÿ“ Supporting the publication process of AFLA's flagship publications, including proofreading the AFLA Quarterly and Book Series and managing the digital distribution of the AFLA E-Reporter

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Supporting the publication of podcast episodes and managing AFLA's social media channels

๐Ÿ—‚๏ธ Assisting with administrative tasks

Qualifications

๐ŸŽ“ An advanced degree in law or related studies

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Fluency in English is a must, and a working knowledge of French is an asset

โœ๏ธ Excellent research and writing skills

๐Ÿงฉ The ability to work independently as well as in a team

๐Ÿ—‚๏ธ Perfectly organised, with essential computer skills

๐Ÿ˜„ A sense of humour
