The European Investment Fund (EIF) is recruiting a Trainee โ€“ Equity Investments & Data Analytics for its Equity Investments department at its headquarters in Luxembourg.


Specific Post Environment

The Equity Investments Department's primary objective is to support innovation and sustainable, inclusive growth by providing access to risk finance for European SMEs and Mid-Caps through investments in Venture Capital, Private Equity, Private Credit and Infrastructure funds, as well as through co-investments. The trainee joins the Equity Investments Transaction Services Unit, which pools the department's analyst, graduate and trainee resources, supervised by the Head of Transaction Services Unit in cooperation with the Head of Scale-up Investments unit.



Overall Objective

Contribute to the quality, consistency and analytical usability of EIF's corporate information management system, which underpins portfolio analysis, reporting and investment decision-making across Venture Capital, Private Equity, Private Credit and Infrastructure funds:

๐Ÿ” Assist with data quality reviews in the corporate information management system, including classification of industry sectors, sub-sectors and targeted investment stages of investee funds, gaining a direct overview of the EIF Equity portfolio across key verticals and industry segments

๐Ÿ“ˆ Identify ways to expand and improve system datapoints to further enhance business analytics, reporting and the investment decision-making process


Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the team's seniors, you will:

๐Ÿ“Š Perform structured data quality reviews by comparing system datapoints with actual fund strategies, sectors and investment activities across EIF-backed funds

๐Ÿค Enrich and refine portfolio datapoints in close collaboration with investment managers, improving the consistency and analytical relevance of sector, sub-sector and investment stage classifications

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Support the development of analytical views, dashboards and reporting outputs leveraging the improved dataset



Expected Outcome

๐Ÿฆ A solid understanding of EIF's Equity portfolio, investment selection and portfolio management processes, plus an overview of the European private capital ecosystem across venture, growth and alternative strategies

โœจ Tangible improvements to the portfolio analytics, reporting and data structures used by investment teams

๐Ÿ’ผ Practical experience at the intersection of investment analysis, data management and business intelligence within a public institutional investor


Qualifications

๐ŸŽ“ University degree (or ongoing studies) in Business Administration, Finance, Data Analytics/Business Analytics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or a similar discipline; candidates may be enrolled in the final year of a master's degree

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Excellent written and spoken English; a good command of another EU language is an advantage

๐Ÿ”ข Strong analytical and numerical skills, with advanced Excel proficiency (pivot tables, lookups, structured data validation)

๐Ÿ“Š Familiarity with data visualisation and reporting tools (e.g. Power BI and/or Tableau); basic dashboard design experience is an advantage

๐Ÿค– Basic understanding of AI agents (e.g. Co-Pilot) and relational data concepts (tables, fields, classifications, hierarchies); exposure to SQL or similar query languages is an advantage

๐Ÿ’ก Interest in business intelligence, data analytics, AI tools or information management systems applied to investment and portfolio analysis

โž• Prior exposure to CRM, portfolio management or financial databases (e.g. internal systems, PitchBook, Preqin, Capital IQ) is a plus
