Description
This team will take place in a picturesque little village of Nõva located on Baltic Sea seashore in the North-West of Estonia, 90 km from Tallinn. Host organisation EstYES has organised international youth camps together with the sport club Lukas Basket for many years in Nova. The main focus of the team will be on seashore cleaning on the mainland as well as on the small islands nearby. The volunteers will express solidarity with the local community and contribute to intergenerational co-operation and wellbeing by tidying up and doing some maintenance works is public areas as well as helping elderly people living in Nõva in some household and garden duties. To promote sustainability there will be info events and a workshop on waste management with ideas how to reduce, reuse, and recycle things instead of just throwing away. Volunteers can share their ideas on sustainability and learn from practices in other countries and get to know more about the state of Baltic Sea from experts.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The venue, connected to local primary school and its sport hall, has a large ground with wooden huts, where participants are accommodated in bunk beds. There is a cantina, sauna, garden and sport facilities (trampolines, bikes, volleyball, table tennis, etc.). A sleeping bag is required. All facilities like showers, toilets are provided at the school. There is also a traditional Estonian sauna. Food will be cooked by a professional cook in the school kitchen and served to volunteers. WiFi is available at local shop and cafe.
Participant profile
We are looking for ten young people aged 18-30, who like to stay in nature and are not afraid of physical work and are willing to stay in simple accommodation conditions. You should be able to ride bike. We encourage application from young people with less opportunities due to economic, social , geographical or other barriers. Drinking alcohol, using drugs is absolutely prohibited in the camp! This team is part of the Concrete Deeds for the Baltic Sea VTHPA project aiming at raising awareness on Baltic Sea and create concrete actions.
