🔷 Activity Details
Description
Founded in 1979, the non-profit organisation La Tchicass was born out of the observation that many children from immigrant backgrounds and disadvantaged Belgian families were facing serious difficulties at school. Much more than just a homework club, the association is above all a place of welcome, exchange and activity, for both children and adults. In concrete terms, this translates into a strong commitment to combating school dropout, illiteracy, difficulties in accessing culture and prejudices of all kinds. In this context, the volunteer will support workers and local volunteers in their daily work in two of the three projects run by La Tchicass with children (homework school), teenagers (homework school and private lessons) and adults (literacy classes and French classes).
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The volunteer will be sharing an accommodation with other housemates, in the city of Liège. They will have their own bedroom and will share the others areas. Food and pocket money is provided every month to the volunteer, who has to manage their budget by themselves. The accommodation and the place where the volunteering takes place are close to each other, and therefore reachable by walking, by bus or by bike.
Training during the activity
Training Info Cycle is organised by the Belgian National Agency. Get Together seminars organized by Compagnons Bâtisseurs Belgium (the coordinating organization). The volunteers can also take part in the training of international leaders organized twice a year by CBB. French classes are available at La Tchicass, additionally to the online linguistic support. The volunteer can take part in any training the staff is having.
Participant profile
Our project is open to anybody motivated by volunteering and who wishes to be involved 100% in our organization and working in the field of youth, regardless of their nationality, religion, believes, diploma, professional experience. A volunteer comfortable with any type of public, willing to learn French, open minded towards people from different social and economic backgrounds and alternative pedagogies, artistic, flexible, willing to share about their culture and country...
