The EU Delegation to the United Nations and other international organisations in Geneva is offering funded traineeships across multiple sections, giving young graduates the opportunity to work at the heart of multilateral diplomacy in one of the world's most important international hubs.
The EU Delegation to the UN in Geneva represents EU interests and values in a multilateral context โ engaging with the Human Rights Council, WHO, ILO, UNCTAD, WIPO, UNEP, ITU, WMO, and many other UN agencies and bodies.
โ ๏ธ You may only apply to 1 traineeship per delegation. However, based on your profile, the delegation could offer you a placement in another section.
What Is This Traineeship?
Funded traineeships of 3 to 6 months within six sections of the EU Delegation to the UN in Geneva. Tentative start date: September/October 2026 โ except the Disarmament section, which starts in November 2026.

๐ Contributing to the drafting of briefings
๐ Assisting in the preparation of meetings โ research and drafting of statements
๐ Preparing draft reports on EU/OHCHR/Human Rights-related meetings, conferences, and events
๐ Overall analysis of Human Rights policies in various countries
๐๏ธ Participating in the Human Rights Council and Universal Periodic Review meetings as well as various working groups

๐ข Assisting the Head of Section and colleagues in daily work related to UNECE, ITU, UNCTAD, WIPO, UNEP, WMO โ and other entities such as WEF, ITC, etc.
๐ Assisting in the preparation of meetings โ research and drafting of statements
๐ Drafting reports following meetings and conferences and summarising newly issued reports
โ๏ธ Assisting in the preparation of official visits and general logistical support

๐ Preparing background notes, analytical reports, and summaries of relevant ILO and other UN agency meetings, events, and seminars โ and EU/IMEC coordination meetings

๐ Supporting the team in drafting reports, organising meetings, and researching and analysing specific policy topics โ including topical issues relating to EU/ILO
๐ค Liaising with EU Member States as part of Governing Body preparations, the International Labour Conference, and general EU coordination
๐๏ธ Attending meetings and events at the UN, EU Delegation, EU Member States, UN Agencies, NGOs, academia, and think tanks

๐ข Assisting section colleagues in covering EU activities in WHO

๐ Preparing background notes, analytical reports, and summaries of relevant UN and EU meetings, events, and seminars
๐ง Supporting communication with EU Member States โ including through email and Agora
๐ Supporting the team in drafting reports, organising meetings, and analysing specific policy topics

๐ Assisting on cross-policy work with particular focus on crisis responses, migration and displacement, and the nexus

Who Should Apply?
๐น MA degree in International Relations, European Studies, or studies pertinent to the specific section
๐น Knowledge of the EU and the UN
๐น Excellent drafting skills in English โ knowledge of French is a strong advantage
๐น Previous internships, student or voluntary work in the specific area applied for โ considered an asset
Grant & Financial Conditions
๐ถ Monthly grant provided to cover living expenses
โ ๏ธ All costs related to travel, visa, insurance, and accommodation must be borne by the trainee.
For EU Member State citizens:
๐ก๏ธ Must provide proof of coverage against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation
๐ชช Must hold a relevant entrance visa and/or temporary residence permit where applicable โ based on the traineeship agreement, its duration, and compliance with local legislation
โ ๏ธ The traineeship can only be offered in compliance with local legislation and the legislation of the country of origin.
