This funded traineeship at the EU Delegation in Colombo is for young graduates with strong communications skills who want to work at the intersection of EU diplomacy and public outreach in South Asia.

The EU Delegation to Sri Lanka and the Maldives supports EU political and trade policy dialogues, provides analysis of political and economic developments in both countries, and manages the press and information activities of the Delegation.

โš ๏ธ Only applicants who are Sri Lankan nationals, or non-Sri Lankan nationals already residing in Sri Lanka with a resident visa valid for the full duration of the traineeship, will be considered.


What Is This Traineeship?

funded traineeship of up to 6 months within the Political, Press and Information Section of the EU Delegation to Sri Lanka and the Maldives. The tentative start date is Mid-July 2026.


Main Tasks

๐Ÿ“ฃ Supporting the Delegation Communications Team in conceptualising and executing campaigns

๐ŸŽช Participating in the preparation of events

๐Ÿ—ž๏ธ Preparing daily press reviews and newsletters

๐Ÿ“‹ Supporting the review and development of project factsheets

๐Ÿ“Œ Contributing to other ad hoc tasks of the section


Who Should Apply?

๐Ÿ”น Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field โ€” communications, public relations, media, social sciences, or similar

๐Ÿ”น Excellent communication and drafting skills in English

๐Ÿ”น Good computer literacy and creative spirit

๐Ÿ”น Interest and ability to work in a multicultural environment

๐Ÿ”น Skills in designing and developing content for social media and newsletters

๐Ÿ”น Self-motivated

๐Ÿ”น Knowledge of local languages โ€” Sinhala and/or Tamil โ€” is an advantage

๐Ÿ”น Has less than one year of professional experience after graduation by the signing date of the Traineeship agreement

โš ๏ธ Other traineeships, student jobs, or volunteering work carried out during university or after graduation are not considered as professional experience for this criterion.


Eligible Candidates

โš ๏ธ This traineeship is only open to:

๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ฐ Sri Lankan nationals

๐ŸŒ Non-Sri Lankan nationals already residing in Sri Lanka with a valid resident visa covering the full duration of the traineeship


Grant & Financial Conditions

๐Ÿ’ถ Monthly grant provided to cover living expenses

โš ๏ธ All costs related to travel, visa, insurance, and accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

For EU Member State citizens:

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Must provide proof of coverage against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation

๐Ÿชช Must hold a relevant entrance visa and/or temporary residence permit where applicable โ€” based on the traineeship agreement, its duration, and compliance with local legislation

โš ๏ธ The traineeship can only be offered in compliance with local legislation and the legislation of the country of origin.
