The EU Delegation to China is offering three distinct funded internship tracks for young graduates who want to experience diplomatic work from the inside โ€” in one of the world's most geopolitically significant postings.

The EU Delegation to China represents EU interests and values in Beijing, engaging across political, press, and translation functions in a complex and fast-moving bilateral relationship.

โš ๏ธ Applicants must ensure they hold a valid visa and legal authorisation to stay in China for the full duration of the internship. Eligibility is strictly conditional upon holding a valid visa permitting work in China.

What Is This Internship?

funded internship of up to 6 months within one of three sections of the EU Delegation to China. The internship is expected to begin in October 2026 โ€” though alternative start dates may be considered depending on operational needs and candidate availability.

๐Ÿ” Analyse foreign and security policy issues impacting EU-China interactions

๐Ÿ“š Conduct background research and analysis on Chinese domestic policy and EU-China relations

๐Ÿ“ Contribute to briefings, minutes, and memos for various meetings and events

๐Ÿค Build networks with interns from other diplomatic missions and international organisations in Beijing

๐ŸŽค Attend and participate in meetings, seminars, and conferences related to the EU's foreign, security, and human rights agendas

๐Ÿ—‚๏ธ Assist in organising and coordinating events โ€” communication and logistics

โœˆ๏ธ Provide logistical and substantive support for official visits and missions by EU officials

๐ŸŒ Participate in the daily activities of the Political Section

๐Ÿ“ข Track 2 โ€” Press and Information Sector (PI)

๐Ÿ“ฑ Updating the Delegation's social media platforms and publishing content

๐Ÿ”„ Translating documents from English/French into Chinese and vice versa

โœ๏ธ Editing, revising, and proofreading texts in different formats and of different natures โ€” ensuring precision and accuracy

๐Ÿ“ Assisting in the documentation process before bilateral meetings, seminars, conferences, and events

๐Ÿ“– Extracting terminology and collocations from Chinese texts for translation purposes

๐Ÿ“š Contributing to the elaboration of domain-specific bilingual glossaries

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Supporting language needs for Delegation activities

๐Ÿ—‚๏ธ Carrying out organisational and coordination assistance tasks as needed


Who Should Apply?

๐Ÿ”น University degree in International Relations, EU Affairs, Political Science, Political Communication, Public Relations, Journalism, Economics, Finance, Multimedia, or Communication

๐Ÿ”น Good command and drafting skills in English

๐Ÿ”น Fluent Chinese (Mandarin) โ€” with good interpretation skills is an asset

๐Ÿ”น Sound communication and interpersonal skills

๐Ÿ”น Ability to work in a team and interact with outside stakeholders

๐Ÿ”น High degree of responsibility and discretion

๐Ÿ”น Good user proficiency in Microsoft Office โ€” including PowerPoint

๐Ÿ”น Basic knowledge of the workings of the European Union and diplomatic missions

๐Ÿ”น Holds a valid visa and legal authorisation to stay in China for the full internship duration


Grant & Financial Conditions

โš ๏ธ All costs related to travel, visa, insurance, and accommodation must be borne by the intern.

For EU Member State citizens:

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Must provide proof of coverage against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation

๐Ÿชช Must hold a relevant entrance visa and/or temporary residence permit where applicable โ€” based on the traineeship agreement, its duration, and compliance with local legislation
