A village of 35 inhabitants in the inner mountains of Aragón. No tourist infrastructure. A cook named Roberto, a bar, and a small shop. And a youth exchange that is asking a genuinely important question: what does it mean to be young and rural in Europe today?
La Libélula is an organisation from Aragón focused on empowering youth and culture in rural areas. Their Rural & Plural Youth Exchange brings together young people from six countries to explore, question, and re-signify what it means to live in rural environments — through visual arts, storytelling, photovoice, and direct intercultural exchange rooted in real rural life.
⚠️ This is not a touristic experience — and that is exactly what makes it worth applying for.
What Is This Project About?
Rural & Plural is designed by and for youth from rural communities. It advocates for diversity in rural areas by redefining what rural means — and celebrating the plurality of identities that inhabit rural environments today. The project creates networks of cooperation among young people from rural areas across Europe, and provides tools for active civic engagement and community participation.

Who Should Apply?
🔹 Age: 18 to 25 years old
🔹 Currently living in a rural area, coming from a rural background, or having a strong interest in rural realities
🔹 Motivated to explore the challenges and opportunities of rural environments
🔹 Eager to engage in meaningful dialogue about rural development, inclusion, and youth participation
🔹 Willing to actively contribute ideas, experiences, and perspectives in a co-creative process
🔹 Ready to become an active agent of positive social change in their community
The Venue — Obón, Teruel, Spain
The project takes place in Obón — a village of 35 inhabitants in the Martín River basin, Aragón. This region is known for its depopulation challenges. The setting is not chosen despite its limitations — it is chosen because of what it honestly represents.
🏠 Participants share large bedrooms for 10 to 20 people with bunk beds — plenty of natural light and views over the valley
⛺ Option to camp in the house's huge gardens
🚿 Indoor and outdoor bathrooms shared — space is limited indoors
🍳 Meals are homemade — prepared by Roberto the cook and Marta, the owner of the house and bar
🌊 Surrounded by amazing nature — perfect for games, spontaneous walks, and swimming in the river during hot summer days

🇲🇰 North Macedonia: €309 (standard) / €417 (green travel)
🇫🇷 France: €285 (green travel strongly encouraged — Flixbus, ALSA, Renfe options available)

🚉 To reach Obón: travel first to Zaragoza (by plane, train via RENFE/OUIGO, or bus via ALSA from Barcelona or Madrid). From Zaragoza, take the bus to Obón — last Thursday bus at 17:00.
