🇪🇸 ESC Volunteering in Spain 🌿 Community & Youth Volunteer at Concello de Lousame 🎨

Not every ESC placement is in a capital city — and sometimes that’s exactly the point. Lousame is a rural municipality of 3,200 people on the Atlantic coast of Galicia, and the Concello de Lousame is looking for two volunteers to spend 10 months embedded in the heart of its community life. Youth work, senior activities, summer camps, hiking trips, cultural events — this is what non-formal education looks like when it’s genuinely local.

🏘️ About Lousame

Lousame is a rural municipality in the province of A Coruña, Spain, covering 93 km² with a tight-knit community of around 3,200 inhabitants. The local government runs a wide range of activities throughout the year — from summer camps and Day Center programmes to senior citizen activities and hiking trips. The two ESC volunteers will be integrated across all of these, working primarily in youth and social services while also contributing to cultural and sports activities.

🎯 The Role

This is an individual ESC volunteering placement — two volunteers will be selected and will share accommodation and working life in Lousame. The work is hands-on and community-facing, providing personalised support to different activity groups across youth, social, cultural, and sports areas. The organisation believes strongly in non-formal education as a genuine development pathway for both the young people they work with and the volunteers themselves.

📋 What You’ll Do

👧 Collaborate on youth activities and provide personalised support to activity groups

🧓 Assist with activities at the Day Center and programmes for senior citizens

🏕️ Support summer camps and other cultural activities throughout the year

🥾 Participate in and help organise hiking trips and sports activities

🎨 Contribute to cultural, creative, and community events across the municipality

🤝 Work alongside local staff and coordinators in a genuinely integrated team setting

🎁 What Lousame Provides

🏠 Shared house or apartment accommodation for the two volunteers, located near activity venues

💶 A financial support allowance provided throughout the project

🚗 Daily transport between accommodation and activity locations accompanied by a town hall employee

🚲 A bicycle provided to each volunteer for getting around

🗣️ Language training through the Erasmus+ Online Linguistic Support (OLS) platform

📋 Ongoing coordination and supervision with regular meetings and direct communication with the coordinator

👤 Who Should Apply

Lousame is looking for young, dynamic people who are genuinely participatory, open, communicative, and ready to engage with a rural community. Adaptability to rural life is important — this is a small municipality with its own pace and character. The ability to work in teams and in group settings is essential. Priority will be given to candidates who bring energy, flexibility, and a real willingness to connect with the community.
