One spot remaining! An Environmental Education Centre in Umianowice, Poland is seeking one final individual ESC volunteer to join its conservation programme in a remote natural setting. Working alongside scientists from the Polish Academy of Sciences, you will care for farm and protected animals, support environmental and hydrological monitoring, help with educational programmes for children, and assist with social media and events. This is a rare, immersive nature volunteering experience combining wildlife care, habitat restoration, research support, and rural community life. โš ๏ธ Male candidates only due to shared double room arrangements. Basic Polish is essential. EU residents or those with a valid long-term visa are prioritised due to the urgent start date.

๐ŸŒ Did You Know? The Nida River in the ลšwiฤ™tokrzyskie region of Poland is one of Central Europe’s last semi-wild inland river deltas โ€” a rare and ecologically precious landscape of oxbow lakes, wetlands, and floodplain meadows that supports an extraordinary diversity of amphibians, reptiles, birds, and plant species. The LIFE4Delta restoration project working in this area is one of Poland’s most ambitious river habitat recovery programmes.

What Will You Do?

๐Ÿด Animal Care: Care for farm animals including horses, sheep, and goats, as well as protected species such as turtles, amphibians, and fish โ€” gaining hands-on experience in both agricultural and conservation animal management.
๐Ÿ”ฌ Environmental & Hydrological Monitoring: Support scientists from the Polish Academy of Sciences and the University of Agriculture in Krakรณw with environmental and hydrological monitoring activities in the field and laboratory.
๐ŸŒŠ Habitat Restoration: Take part in restoring the inland delta of the Nida River โ€” one of Central Europe’s most ecologically significant wetland restoration projects โ€” through practical field work.
๐Ÿง’ Environmental Education: Help deliver educational programmes for children and youth visiting the Centre โ€” including green schools, summer camps, nature workshops, and guided experiences across the facility’s unique attractions.
๐Ÿ“ฑ Social Media & Events: Support the Centre’s social media management and assist with event organisation, conferences, and cultural gatherings hosted at the facility throughout the year.
๐Ÿš‚ Visitor Experience: Support visitor activities connected to the Centre’s unique attractions โ€” including a narrow-gauge railway, drezines, and the Nidarium, the largest biotope aquarium in the region.
๐ŸŒ Did You Know? Biotope aquariums โ€” like the Nidarium at this Centre โ€” recreate the precise ecological conditions of a specific natural habitat, including its native plants, water chemistry, substrate, and animal species. They are increasingly used as powerful conservation and education tools, offering visitors a window into ecosystems that are disappearing in the wild at alarming rates.

Who Can Apply?

๐Ÿ‘จ Male Candidates Only: Due to shared double room accommodation arrangements, only male volunteers can be accepted at this stage.
๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ EU Residents Prioritised: Due to the urgent start date, priority is given to candidates from the European Union or those already holding a valid long-term visa โ€” there is insufficient time to complete a new visa procedure.
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Basic Polish (Essential): Basic knowledge of Polish is essential, as many staff members at the Centre do not speak English.
๐ŸŒฟ Ideal Backgrounds: The project is particularly suited to volunteers with an interest or background in agriculture, animal science, biology, zoology, herpetology, environmental education, tourism, or nature conservation.
๐Ÿฅพ Rural Readiness: The Centre is located in a remote rural area. Candidates should be genuinely comfortable with a rural rhythm of life โ€” including some distance from shops, towns, and urban amenities.
โšก Attitude: Passionate, proactive, and eager to make a real contribution โ€” not afraid to get their boots muddy and fully commit to the programme’s varied daily demands.

Accommodation, Food & Travel

๐Ÿ  Accommodation: Long-term volunteers stay in attic twin-bed rooms with a shared kitchen. The main building has 60 beds in shared rooms with private bathrooms. The Centre is in a remote location surrounded by nature โ€” ideal for anyone ready to fully commit to the experience.
๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Food: Meals are cooked on-site by staff, though volunteers can also cook for themselves using the shared kitchen.
๐Ÿšฒ Local Transport: E-bikes are available for getting around locally. Cars are not for volunteer use, but staff can often give lifts during working hours. The nearest shop is 5.5 km away; the city of Piล„czรณw is 10 km away.
๐Ÿ“ถ Amenities: Fast Wi-Fi is available throughout the Centre.
โœˆ๏ธ Travel Costs: Travel expenses are covered in accordance with ESC programme guidelines.

Training & Learning

๐ŸŽ“ On-Site Training: All necessary training is provided on-site by Centre staff, including practical skills for animal care, environmental monitoring, and educational programme delivery.
๐Ÿ›๏ธ ESC Agency Training: Official trainings provided by the ESC agency are included as part of the programme, in accordance with ESC requirements.
๐Ÿ”ฌ Scientific Collaboration: Volunteers work directly alongside researchers from the Polish Academy of Sciences and the University of Agriculture in Krakรณw โ€” a unique learning opportunity rarely available in standard volunteering programmes.
