Have you ever imagined volunteering inside a real medieval fortress? You can join the NextGen Green Team ESC project in ล ibenik, Croatia, and spend two weeks supporting the iconic Fortress of St. Mihovil and Barone Fortress โ helping staff with daily activities, assisting with the post-summer restoration of the fortresses, promoting their cultural heritage, and taking part in local climate actions and community clean-up initiatives. This is a short-term team volunteering project for 14 volunteers from across Europe, based in the heart of one of Croatia's most beautiful coastal cities. Deadline is 16 March 2026 โ don't wait.
๐๏ธ Did You Know? ล ibenik is home to the Cathedral of St. James โ a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most remarkable Renaissance buildings in the entire Mediterranean. It was built entirely from stone between 1431 and 1535, without a single brick. Volunteering here means living inside living history.
What Will You Do as a Volunteer?
๐ฐHelp fortress staff with daily operations and activities at the Fortress of St. Mihovil and Barone Fortress โ two of ล ibenik's most iconic cultural landmarks
๐งAssist with the renewal and recuperation of the fortresses following the summer tourist season โ supporting the sustainable maintenance of these historic heritage sites
๐ธCreate and promote content about the fortresses โ their heritage, history, and what visitors should look for โ helping spread awareness of this remarkable cultural legacy
๐Participate in climate actions and community clean-up initiatives in the local surroundings of ล ibenik, contributing to a greener and more sustainable coastal environment
๐ฑ Did You Know? The European Solidarity Corps short-term team volunteering format โ like this project โ is open to young people aged 18 to 30 and is one of the fastest ways to gain international volunteering experience, with projects as short as 2 weeks fully funded by the EU.
Accommodation, Food & Travel
๐จAll volunteers will be accommodated at Hostel Globo in ล ibenik for the full duration of the project
๐ฝ๏ธThree meals per day are provided for all volunteers throughout the volunteering period
๐ถEach volunteer receives โฌ70 pocket money upon arrival to cover personal expenses during the project
โ๏ธTravel costs are reimbursed up to a maximum amount calculated via the Erasmus+ Distance Calculator based on the distance between your home and ล ibenik
Training & Learning
๐๏ธGain hands-on experience in cultural heritage management and the sustainable use of historic public spaces through direct work at two active fortress venues
๐ฟDevelop a practical understanding of climate action and environmental responsibility through community-based initiatives in a real coastal European setting
๐คBuild intercultural teamwork and communication skills by working alongside 14 volunteers from across Europe in a shared, dynamic group environment
