๐ European Solidarity Corps Volunteering Opportunity
This ESC volunteering project takes place at an agroecological cooperative farm in Catalunya, Spain, offering volunteers a hands-on learning experience in sustainable agriculture, biodiversity protection and traditional seed conservation.
The farm manages more than 20 hectares of land near Igualada (Barcelona) and combines agroecological farming with forest management and environmental education.
Volunteers will work alongside the cooperative team supporting sustainable farming practices, seed preservation and community learning activities while gaining practical knowledge of agroecology and land management.
๐ฑ Farm Environment
The cooperative operates a diverse agricultural ecosystem including:
๐ฅ A large vegetable garden
๐ Fruit trees and perennial fields
๐ฒ A large pine forest area
๐ A small herd of Jersey cows grazing on pasture
๐ Around 100 free-range chickens living in mobile coops
๐พ Several composting systems and seed conservation initiatives
The farm also maintains a seed bank for traditional local varieties, helping preserve biodiversity and agricultural heritage.

๐ฑ Supporting traditional seed saving and seed bank management in collaboration with local initiatives

๐ฒ Planting trees and shrubs to improve biodiversity
๐พ Creating silvopasture areas and living hedges
๐ง Building swales and ecological systems that increase water retention

๐ Accommodation, Food & Living Conditions
Volunteers will live directly on the farm.
๐ก Private sleeping space on the ground floor
๐ณ Access to a shared kitchen and bathroom
๐ Basic food supplies provided (rice, pasta, vegetables and similar essentials)
๐ฐ Volunteers also receive monthly pocket money for personal expenses.
๐ฒ Transport
The farm is located about 4 km from Igualada.
๐ถ Approximately 1 hour walking distance
๐ฒ Around 20 minutes by bicycle (bikes are available for volunteers)
Volunteers may also bring their own vehicle if they wish.
๐ Training and Learning
๐ฑ All agricultural and forest activities include in-house practical training.
๐ฃ From September, volunteers may also join language classes in Igualada Civic Centres, with the possibility to learn:
