The Fukuoka Regional Office oversees UN-Habitat work in 42 countries across Asia and the Pacific.
📝 Internship Overview
• Location: Fukuoka, Japan 🇯🇵
• Mode: In-person
• Duration: 6 months
• Type: Full-time (UNPAID)
Interns work closely with Substantive Officers and contribute to programmes at both regional and country levels.
🔧 Your Responsibilities
You may be assigned tasks in one or more of these areas:
🌏 Programme & Project Support
• Assist in planning, monitoring, reporting, and evaluating regional projects
• Support collaboration across country teams
• Help with administrative and budgeting tasks
📚 Research & Knowledge Management
• Contribute to studies, publications and background documents
• Assist with information management and content organization
📝 Communications
• Draft web stories and update digital content
• Support the preparation of meetings, workshops, and stakeholder events
🤝 Resource Mobilization
• Track funding calls
• Assist in preparing concept papers and project documents
🎓 Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet ONE of the following:
✔ Enrolled in a Master’s program
✔ Enrolled in final year of a Bachelor’s program
✔ Recently graduated (Bachelor/Master/PhD)
Preferred Study Fields:
• Architecture, Urban Design, Urban Planning
• Geography / GIS / Urban Information Sciences
• Climate Change, Environmental Management, Biodiversity
• Disaster Risk Reduction, Resilience
• Public Policy, Governance, Development Studies
• Project Cycle Management
• Journalism, Public Communications
• Finance, Admin, HR, Procurement
• Smart Cities, Affordable Housing, Migration & Displacement
Skills:
• Strong English (written + spoken)
• Good communication skills
• Ability to work with diverse teams
• Research skills in urban sustainability are desirable
• Microsoft Office proficiency required
