Join Narodno Chitalishte Badeshte Sega 2006 in Smolyan, Bulgaria, and become part of an inspiring short-term ESC volunteering experience deep in the Rhodope Mountains! 🏔️

The Mountain Hub project offers a unique opportunity to support local youth initiatives, environmental activities, and community engagement while surrounded by breathtaking natural landscapes. Volunteers will join a multicultural team and help run the Youth Center Smolyan, contributing to its mission of promoting creativity, inclusion, and active citizenship among young people. 🌿

💡 What You’ll Do

  • 🎨 Organise creative workshops and cultural activities for young people
  • 🌱 Support eco and sustainability campaigns and outdoor events
  • 🏃 Help coordinate sports and volunteer initiatives in the community
  • 💬 Manage communication and social media for the Youth Center
  • 🛠️ Assist with daily operations, welcoming visitors, and preparing materials
  • 🌍 Collaborate in an international team, developing leadership, teamwork, and intercultural skills

You’ll also have the chance to implement your own mini-initiatives, express your creativity, and help create an inclusive environment that inspires youth participation in the local community.

🏡 Accommodation, Food & Allowance

  • Accommodation provided in a shared volunteer house in Smolyan (shared rooms, kitchen, and common spaces)
  • Meals provided on working days
  • Monthly pocket and food allowance: €205
  • Travel costs reimbursed (up to €180–410, depending on distance)
  • Volunteers are encouraged to use eco-friendly travel options (bus/train for under 1000 km)
  • Average weekly workload: 30–35 hours, with 20 working and 10 free days

🎓 Training & Support

  • Introductory training on project goals, safety, culture, and daily tasks
  • Workshops on teamwork, communication, sustainability, and project management
  • Skill-building sessions on facilitation, creative and eco workshop leadership, media literacy, and youth work
  • End-of-project evaluation and recognition through a Youthpass certificate

👤 Who Can Apply

We’re looking for motivated volunteers aged 18–30 who are:

  • Permanent residents of countries not requiring a visa for Bulgaria
  • Passionate about youth work, ecology, and sustainability
  • Creative, adaptable, and open to teamwork and intercultural exchange
  • Comfortable living close to nature and in basic living conditions (shared kitchen, solar shower, limited shop access)
  • Ready to engage with the local community and bring new ideas to life

Volunteers from diverse backgrounds and those with fewer opportunities are strongly encouraged to apply.
