💼 About Equalize Startups

Equalize Startups is a U.S.-based nonprofit launchpad dedicated to helping women founders in academia turn their research and inventions into successful startups.

This six-month program combines expert-led training, one-on-one mentoring, in-person networking, and a pitch competition, all tailored to equip women academic inventors with the skills, confidence, and connections needed to navigate the startup ecosystem.

Participation is completely cost-free for selected participants — known as Equalizers — with 100% of donationsdirectly funding program operations.

Participants selected as Equalizers will receive:

🧬 Focus Areas

Equalize 2026 will select up to 40 participants across four innovation domains:

  1. Therapeutics
  2. MedTech (Devices & Diagnostics)
  3. Tools (Digital Health & Research)
  4. Physical Sciences

👩‍🔬 Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Hold a position at an academic institution (faculty, postdoctoral researcher, graduate student, or staff scientist).
  • Have raised less than $1 million in dilutive funding.
  • Have a product concept no more than 5 years away from IND, product launch, or major corporate partnership.
  • Be committed to participating in all scheduled activities:
    • Minimum six mentoring sessions.
    • Attendance at the in-person event (March 30, 2026).
    • Presentation at the virtual pitch event (June 17, 2026).
    • Participation in virtual weekly training sessions (Fridays, Jan–May 2026).
