🎯 About the Young Professionals Program (YPP)

The Young Professionals Program is AfDB’s flagship talent development initiative, designed to nurture a new generation of future African leaders. It offers exceptional, career-defining opportunities to young professionals passionate about Africa’s growth and transformation.

Program objectives:

  • Develop a pipeline of future leaders for the Bank.
  • Nurture high-potential professionals as development specialists.
  • Strengthen diversity and inclusion across the institution.

🔑 Key Features

1️⃣ Rotational Assignments (3 cycles)

  • Rotation 1 – Apply professional knowledge (Year 1)
  • Rotation 2 – Stretch and learn across departments (Year 2)
  • Rotation 3 – Transition and integrate into a long-term role (9 months)

Each Young Professional experiences multiple departments — including possible placement in a Country or Regional Office — gaining exposure to operations, policy, and strategy.

2️⃣ Capacity Development
A customized Professional & Personal Development Program through the Young Professionals Learning Faculty, including:

  • Onboard training courses
  • Postgraduate-level learning with partner institutions
  • AfDB Operations Academy
  • International certification programs
  • Hands-on project assignments

3️⃣ Mentorship & Coaching
YPs receive guidance from senior mentors, coaches, and buddy groups for rapid integration into the Bank’s culture.

4️⃣ Graduation & Integration
Successful YPs who complete the full program, perform strongly, and meet ethical standards will graduate at Grade PL5, joining the AfDB workforce as full-time professionals.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:
1️⃣ Be a citizen of an AfDB member country (see full list).
2️⃣ Be 32 years old or younger by 30 November 2025.
3️⃣ Hold a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
4️⃣ Have at least 3 years of post-graduate professional experience related to AfDB’s priorities.
5️⃣ Have hands-on experience in Africa or other developing regions.
6️⃣ Demonstrate passion for Africa’s development and commitment to inclusive growth.
7️⃣ Possess strong teamwork, communication, leadership, and analytical skills.
8️⃣ Be fluent in English or French (with working knowledge of the other language preferred).
9️⃣ Be digitally literate and adaptable to evolving technologies.
🔟 Be willing to live and work in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire) or other AfDB duty stations.
