Your adventure is about to begin β how exciting! πβ¨
Whether youβre joining anΒ Erasmus+Β project or anΒ ESC volunteering experience, a bit of preparation can make your journey smooth, fun, and unforgettable! ππ«
Hereβs everything you need to know before you go! π
π§³ 1. Travel Documents & Insurance
β
Passport or ID: Make sure itβs valid for the entire travel period (and ideally a few months beyond).
π Visa: If required for your host country, your organisation will help you with the process.
π§Ύ European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) β or private health insurance if youβre from a non-EU country.
π§³ ESC Participants: Youβre automatically covered by CIGNA insurance via the European Solidarity Corps.
Keep digital and printed copies of all documents β just in case! π
π° 2. Financial & Practical Preparations
πΆ Check how your grant or pocket money will be paid (before or after arrival).
π¦ Open a bank account that works abroad or activate your international card.
π¬ Keep a small amount of local currency for your first few days.
π± Check if your phone plan works across Europe β or get a local SIM card.
Budget wisely and keep a small emergency fund β just in case of surprises! ππ‘
π‘ 3. Accommodation & Arrival
π Your hosting organisation or project will arrange your stay (flat, dorm, or host family).
π¬ Confirm your arrival time and pickup details with them before you travel.
π¬ Save their address, phone number, and email in your notes and phone.
π§ Use Google Maps or Maps.me offline so you can navigate even without internet!

π― 4. Know Your Project
Before you go, read the Info Pack or project description carefully! ποΈβ¨
Learn about:
π The hosting organisation and their activities
π« Other participants and their countries
π
The daily schedule and whatβs expected from you
If you have questions, donβt hesitate to contact your sending or hosting organisation β theyβre there to help! π€πͺπΊ
π 5. Cultural Preparation
π¬ Learn a few words in the local language β it shows respect and helps you connect.
πͺπΊ Be open-minded and ready for cultural differences.
π₯ Try local food, join community events, and explore your host city.
π Remember: youβre not just visiting β youβre living an experience!
π 6. What to Pack

π± Keep in touch with your sending and hosting organisations.
π Share your emergency contact with them.
π§ Have copies of your travel ticket, insurance, and passport stored online.
π€ Always let someone know your travel plans when exploring new cities.
