🇩🇪 ESC Volunteering in Germany 🎨 Supporting Local Arts and Community Life 🏘️

Description

We live and promote neighborhood culture. Our primary goal is socio-cultural work within and for the local community. We offer a wide range of cultural and social programmes that bring people together, strengthen democracy, and inspire creativity. Our work includes the promotion of music, art, theater, and cultural education, as well as volunteer engagement, and programs for refugees, families, seniors, children, and young people. We encourage self-help, participation and selforganization and actively invite people to take part in shaping our centre and promote their ideas. Alongside artistic expression, we address the social challenges of our time, aiming to meet people's needs and encourage active civic participation. We welcome everyone with respect and appreciation, and work in a professional, reliable, and friendly manner, ensuring that both our programs and our facilities provide a welcoming atmosphere.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Accomodation: you will stay in a shared house in Hamburg, where you will have access to internet, a shared bathroom and kitchen. You will have your own room.

Food: you will receive the official amount for food (345 €) per month and also a monthly pocket money (210€).

Transport arrangements: we will provide you with a bike and a monthly public transport pass (if necessary).

Training during the activity

You will have many opportunities to learn with us! You will attend two mandatory seminars in different German cities, where you can reflect on your learning progress and meet other volunteers like you.

You can improve your language skills thanks to a language course that we will provide. We will also offer you trainings before, during and after your project.

In addition, during your stay with us, we will organise regular reflection meetings.

Participant profile

The biggest building block of our work is the contact with the people that visit our cultural centre. Therefore, we would like to have a person who is courageous to get in touch with the different target groups of Meiendorf. Not being shy, being interested in the young people's issues and being open to other people and situations are definitely qualities that will make your start with us easier.

We do not expect any special educational qualifications. Of course, you will not be able to communicate in German from the beginning, but we think that there are many ways of communicating outside of language.

We would like you to bring ideas and initiative to regularly design, plan and implement activities for our visitors. These can be low-threshold projects, for example in the area of music, sport and creativity, in which the visitors can try things out. The projects can be in your areas of interest, and there are many possibilities in our house. The most important aspect for us is that you want to be part of our team for the duration of your service and come into contact with the young people in the projects. We are happy if you bring your own interests and skills into our team.

WE ONLY ACCEPT APPLICATIONS THROUGH THE ESC PORTAL. Please do not send your application to any other email address. If you have any questions, please email esc-hi@ijgd.de ONLY.
