The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is offering a 12-month paid traineeship for an AI Learning Associate at its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. Starting in January 2027, this full-time position is open to recent graduates and early-career professionals with up to two years of experience who want to work at the intersection of humanitarian action, organizational learning, and artificial intelligence. Youth Works Hub reviewed this opportunity and selected it for its combination of competitive compensation, international exposure, and genuine mission relevance.
What This Traineeship is About: AI-Driven Upskilling at the ICRC
Digital technologies, and AI in particular, are rapidly transforming how the ICRC delivers humanitarian action. From analyzing conflict data to supporting field operations and internal communications, AI has become central to how the organization plans and operates across more than 100 countries.
Keeping pace with this transformation requires ICRC staff to continuously build new skills. The AI Learning Associate will play a central role in that effort: supporting the design, testing, and delivery of AI learning programs for all ICRC staff, worldwide. This includes curating resources, analyzing learning pathways, and helping prototype AI-supported learning tools.
The traineeship is based at ICRC headquarters in Geneva, the global center of humanitarian diplomacy, and comes with a gross monthly salary of CHF 3,934, paid in 13 installments under the standard Swiss compensation structure. A Legitimation Card (the work authorization document for staff at international organizations in Geneva) is provided by the ICRC.

About the International Committee of the Red Cross
Founded in 1863, the ICRC is one of the world's oldest and most respected humanitarian organizations. Working across more than 100 countries, its mission is to protect human dignity and relieve suffering caused by armed conflict and other situations of violence.
The organization operates across a broad spectrum of humanitarian activities: delivering life-saving aid in conflict zones, reconnecting families separated by war, tracing missing persons, visiting detainees, and advocating for compliance with international humanitarian law. It engages with governments, armed forces, and all parties to a conflict, often confidentially, pressing for access to detainees and protection of non-combatants.
The ICRC is also increasingly engaged in protecting people from digital threats, recognizing that cyber attacks and emerging technologies pose new risks in humanitarian settings. This broader commitment to technology governance makes internal AI literacy a strategic priority, not just an operational one.
The organization is committed to diversity and welcomes applications from all qualified candidates worldwide.
