Description
The project addresses limited opportunities for young people in Gaziantep to gain international experience, practise foreign languages and participate in volunteering activities. It also responds to the need for stronger interaction between university students, local communities, refugees and young people from different cultural backgrounds. Other identified needs include reducing prejudice and hate speech, improving social inclusion, increasing environmental awareness and strengthening young people’s digital, social and entrepreneurial skills. The objectives are to promote solidarity and intercultural dialogue, increase participation in volunteering and sports, improve participants’ personal and professional competences, and strengthen the university’s capacity for international cooperation.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Volunteers will be provided with shared accommodation in Gaziantep. The accommodation includes a shared kitchen and common areas, Wi-Fi, washing machines, refrigerators, wardrobes, bed sheets, blankets and other basic facilities. Basic kitchen supplies will be provided, and volunteers will receive a monthly food allowance to cover their meals. In addition, each volunteer will receive €6 pocket money per day. Most activity locations are within walking distance. When activities take place further away, local transportation will be covered by the hosting organisation through public transport, shuttle service or taxi when necessary
Training during the activity
At the beginning of the project, volunteers will join an orientation programme including team-building, practical information and activity preparation. During the project, they will receive Turkish language support, mentoring and guidance from the project team. Volunteers will also develop skills in non-formal education, intercultural learning, communication, teamwork and activity planning.
Participant profile
We are looking for motivated young people aged 18-30 who are interested in volunteering, intercultural learning and working with university students. Participants should be open-minded, responsible, flexible and willing to work in an international team. Basic English communication skills are expected. Previous volunteering experience is not required, but motivation to learn, share ideas and actively participate in activities is important.
