Description
Malagne Archéoparc is a non-profit organisation managing a Gallo-roman archaeological site. Its aims are to enhance and protect the heritages, to pass on and share knowledges about Gallo-roman history through know-hows and techniques, to make the past alive through scientific researches based on experimental archaeology, through animals living on site... and rediscovering of old techniques. The volunteers' (2) tasks will be to help in mostly manual tasks: gardening, fixing fences, pruning, building shelters and bridgefoot, taking care of the animals to help the team in the maintenance of the archeological site. To a lesser extent, volunteers can be involved in pedagogical tasks: helping the pedagogical staff with groups of children visiting, supporting during the re-enactement event, showing how to bake bread, forge with traditional techniques. Busy period from April until October.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The volunteers will have a private room in a fully-equipped shared house in the city of Rochefort with other ESC volunteers (1.5 km away from the Archéoparc). Food: the volunteer will receive a budget and will take care of the meals by themself. Participation in the ESC is free of charge for the participant, except for exceptional contribution to travel costs. The volunteer will receive free board and lodging during the whole activity. In addition, they will receive a small allowance (pocket money) for personal expenses throughout the duration of the activity.
Training during the activity
With the French-speaking National Agency of Belgium: on-arrival and mid-term seminars. With the support organization in Belgium (Association des Compagnons Bâtisseurs asbl, "CBB"): residential weekends and networking activities with other ESC volunteers on other projects supported by CBB in the French-speaking part of Belgium. The volunteers should be ready to take an active part in the collective networking activities and can count on many local resources to create personal projects. French classes available.
